To exist. You can ask that question about any living being. Why are they surviving? Well, it's more about the genitic code, the genetic materials. Anything from a single cell organisim to humans, all main purpose is to survive. This applies to the living of life itself; as a philosophic stand point, life has no purpose whatsoever. It is simply a consequence of the laws of physics in this universe.

The question really should be, "Why do humans have a need to seek meaning?" To this I would say that I really dont know, but I can offer speculation that the realization that we are going to die makes it necessary for humans to wonder what the purpose in living is if death is going to happen regardless of what they do. Thus, they search for meaning in life. This is simply a consequence.

All is meaningless under the sun. I suppose were all seeking perfection. Whatever that might be. Perfection does not exist yet we all have a concept of what perfection is. This board, talk shows, radio shows, politics etc all revolve around seeking what is "perfect" and what is not. What consitutes as Quality and what is not Quality.

It all boils down to the seperation from our essecnece. Now as rational animals we question and seek this planet upon which we live. All seeking the esscence of what is Perfect, which we all lost some how or another. Now were just trying to return to Perfection.

The only answer I found more laughable than "God", was Carlos's. Carlos that was possibly the worst paragraph ive read in my life. lol

Anyway, we are here because some time long ago the Earth had perfect conditions for multi-celled organisms to exist and reproduce. A couple billions years later, you have us. Going through what happened during that entire time scale would take too long for any one person to explain.
