i gave the '10 minute frestyle'' thing some thought...
also i wanna say this....i in no way want it to look like if you cant go 10 minutes, you cant go on the show...that would be stubborn and closeminded of me...im not trying to make you have to be better than licwit or black mikeyat freestyling...for instance i talked to young sau today and he said for his show he just wants to cohost, and help me with the playlist because he wants to hear certain shit..not necessarily stuff from his camp but he has thoughts of how things could go.
Thats the fun part to me. Actually being creative with the artist on my show to bring you guys something new. So if a dude dosent want to freestyle i ask...what do you want to do?
with my show, theres multiple ways a person can help. you can just work with me on the weeks show and the show is me and your show for the week. fatman on siccness for instance, shoots me alot of instrumentals for the show. So we work together on it. Ive done that with licwit on his show, I did that with my homie premo last week, he co produced. you can come on and just conversate, but i ask that you are prepared enough to have shit to talk about already written down, or whatever.
ive gotten alot of feedback and alot of constructive criticism..one i heard is that my show tends to lack 'control'...IMO i believe i do that on purpose..i know people from googie to lodeck in NYC (east coas tunderground rap)...I don't want to get pigeonholed into having to do a certain thing....my show isnt about holding gangsters hands..or me HAVING to play sd music....its whatever it wants to be that week....personally id much rather people come on my show with an idea and we work on the idea and make it reality, instead of me saying 'okay well u gon flow for 10 minutes'
you could flow for 1 minute frestyle for all i care. or 3 minute freestyle. or not at all. all i try to do in this show is
bring out the personality in attributes that the guest already has. i been on the show for 6 weeks, so i know yall have a feeling for how i am, so i try to make it about the guest more than me. i dont even like to be on the mic when its their time to shine or do what they want. i saw that licwit was a freestyle type dude so i brought that out of him. i saw black mikey feels hes a hip hop dude in a real niggas body sometimes, and that he fucks with the east coast, so i put more east coast rap on his show, and i gave him all hip hop beats and no gangsta shit. Even as far as small details, im very on when it comes to whos on the show like sau told me 'i dont want to do the 10 minute thing'...i dont want him to between me and you....not that he cant but he hold a great conversation and has alot of good intellectual things to say and points to make, which would make him a great co-host or co/producer. i wanna make it clear thats not my intent, to torture you guys like its shaolin training... its whatever you wanna do.
cuz eventually its not gonna just be rappers on the show. sometimes i might have people who just have important shit to talk about...sometimes the show might not even be heavy on music and itll be heavy on talking...
for instance im gonna do a halloween show and im gonna play some halloween songs (like mind playin tricks on me by geto boyz) but im also gonna be playing "monster mash" and shit like that, because its the halloween show.
im always real real open to ideas on this shit.
so let me say, fuck the '10 minute' aspect..
DO YOU GUYS WANT TO CONTINUE HEARING FREESTYLES BY SD ARTISTS? thats what i want an answer of.
It dosent have to be every week and it wasnt really going to be...but do you guys find freestyling interesting? does it tcatch your attention? was it entertaining? thats what i need to know. because if you can just do without hearing sd mcs freestyle, let me know! im not saying id abolish it because of your opinion, but im really interested in the opinion of the people.
for instance when we do ric nutts show,. i dont think hes a super freestylin type dude. itll prolly be more like a interview...and we'll speak on certain sd topics...maybe open up conversation for the city or get people up on wrongkind in detail who aint..
I dont think orko is even gonna rhyme for 10 minutes and before we even had this talk on siccness i was kinda tellin him that, like id liek for him to do some live beat instrumentation cuz i know he does that too, or like whatever hes into right now, i know he fucks with the drum and bass...
these people are artists too....so i try to pull the creativity and the artist side out of the person i have on the show and turn it into a distinct sound for the week. i think thats why all the shows sound different. almost every show was approached in a different way.
heres another question. if a mc dosent freestyle, are you cool with him spitting writtens? i mean, a mc is a mc. we do want them to spit, right? so what would yall like to see or hear on the mcs side?
give me some opinions and thoughts.
do yall want more interviews from the rapper on the show himself, instead of 'freestyle session time'....would yall like the rappers on the show to me more active within the conversations on the show? what are you interested in when a rapper is on my show?
does it vary based on the artist? thats how i feel it is.
sorry i typed alot. but this show really....and when i get into week 15 or something youll see what i mean...really is gonna be different all the time.
If i did the same thing every show id have the same people listening. I want people to listen for different reasons. I dont just want my fans to be a sausage party full of gangsters.....or freestyle fiends...im finding out slowly i have female fans....not to say thats gonna make me play bitch shit, but i keep females in mind on the show too. theres always somethin for them, for some hip hop cats, for some rap people, for the gangsters and the street cats...
music is disposable these days...theres so much music..and its all free...how do you find everything? you might not even know what you want or like in music cuz it aint your job. Ive taken it upon myself to make it my job. So i think some shit people are gonna like and some aint.
On my last note im not trying to blow up... I'm trying to get SD its just due...and not just the gangsta rappers....this is a huge city and there is alot of oppurtunity...Maybe ill be a canidate at the music awards next week....

Ive had a few people who are good friends who have decided to step up ON THEIR OWN and help....and those people are now considered my 'cast and crew'....theres alot of people behind all gas no brakes...alot of great minds helping...and this thread could quite possibly get you, or someone else, more involved in the process.

But the one thing the show will always have no matter what, is new San Diego rap and nw Bay area rap. At the end of this all i hope i break down every single wall that was ever in san diego. I want bloods fucking with crips, LP fucking with skyline, eses fuckign with blacks, whites in SD up on the hip hop scene besides mc flow, and the entire SD realizing we have alot of talent here. from rappers to comedians to djs to skateboarders.....athletes...intellectuals......everything.
its about us. i just typed 4 pages but fuck it man. thats how important the technicalities of my show is to me. im on the phone building about this shit every single day. thats why every show sounds better than the last...i get more fedback and learn what and what not to do.

how about this...we will KEEP THE 10 MINUTE FREESTYLE an option...just like the 50 pound burger be an option at that famous burger place....if you think you can eat the 50 pound burger...then shit we'll bring it out...lol..and you can go for ten...but if you cant no worries. thatll be something reserved for those who feel up to the task and have something to lyrically prove.
i think the real reason the freestyle thing is dope to me is a) i grew up bnging wake up show mixtapes and loved the freestyle segment b) rap city c) dj screw tapes (they werent even GREAT mcs...they were just super high enough to rhyme for 5minutes straight...you could tell they were havin fun..) and d) freestyle is a LOST CHAPTER in rap music now....and its NEVER had a chapter in SD...so...atleast i think we need to step back and realize its place in rap music..but definitely not make everyone do it or be like 'aww u cant go for 10? u weak then bro nevermind"
