depends on what exactly you're talking about sometimes people can talk randomly or other times just carry on like no one is reading like a journal or something sometimes folks just type rants and shit like you know or sometimes it will just be absurdly random like i just wanted to let off steam and ask what to do! I waited for months to see the specialist and got a different person from last time. My G.P said wait to see the specialist even though my hair is falling out really fast. Anyway, I went fasting all day and this guy said the person who requested the fasting insulin and glucose last time was basically lower down the food chain than him and he wasn't going to do it, that he wasn't going to prescribe metformin because it wasn't effective unless I was trying to get pregnant, that there wasn't evidence it helped with hair only with ovulation, that it only lowered androgen levels slightly so there was no point prescribing it, that he wouldn't prescribe avandia because there wasn't evidence, that he told me I was wasting my time dieting etc. He tried to scare me my saying that if I took Avandia I would put on 5 kg and get dizzy! OOh I'm scared! Now I know weight gain is not a good idea but come on! PCOS/IR makes me put on weight and get dizzy. I used to be dizzy all the time till I lowered carbs. Get dizzy! Now he didn't exactly totally deny an insulin connection, but he basically said nothing made much difference. I tried so many different angles but he kept blowing me off. He did seem familiar with what I was talking about but just said there hadn't been enough trials done etc etc. He said 'your androgen levels are now normal because you are on the pill...the reason you are still having problems is because your follicles must be very sensitive. He said he treats diabetics but didn't even see any merit in using the metformin in trying to stave off diabetes. Then, slightly more reasonably, though I am still very annoyed about it, he wouldn't prescribe proscar or anything because of the whole birth defects thing. What,in case I get raped and the pill doesn't work and I freakishly ovulate and don't take the morning after pill and decide to keep the baby despite the birth defects which I never would. GGR! He did agree to prescribe way more cyproterone acetate -50mg, so the best treatment I get is what they give sex offenders! Yay! I agreed, because I saw a study once saying that at least it worked faster on hirsutism so I thought if it is going to work on hairloss at all which it probably won't it will at least work while I still have some hair left. I don't think it is terribly dose dependant when it comes to affecting hair follicles though. The only reason he gave me that was because I have male pattern balding he wouldn't have done it for hair thinning. Then he told me it basically probably wouldn't work. Well, at least he was honest and I luckily know this anyway NOW! Then he basically said he'd write to my doctor about this saying what a waste of time it was to test insulin etc i.e don't bother listening to anything I have to say I took this as. AAhgh OK I need a new specialist- several maybe! Sorry I know that was a pointless post but I was so angry and upset! I was really really expecting the metformin because of the request for the insulin test I thought they must be prepared to treat this in a more up to date fashion. All I can say is I am so glad I didn't see this guy before I knew anything because he could have done even more damage! I feel like I'm in dark age of PCOS treatment! but you know its whatever if you dont like it dont read it u knmow?
