It all depends...If the rapper is a great wordsmith, but he has no way to get quality original production, then I would rather hear a high quality mixtape...On the other hand if you have the conections to get solid production then I want to hear an album. There is nothing worse then Great rapping over shitty tracks (the only person to pull that off is TUPAC) it just makes it all bad...But if you are asking for your own personal research I would simply say...DO WHAT EVER MAKES YOU SOUND BEST AND ALLOWS YOU TO ADVANCE AS AN ARTIST.

i gotta go with an album dog, because i think they can show more of your originality, and i can listen to an album more than a mixtape. i usually play mixtapes for a few weeks, but its nuthin i can put down, and pick back up a few months later and still slap it.

im personally tired of all the mixtapes. i want more albums fuck mixtapes. wha i dont understand is how you charge for a mixtape when you aint even using your own beats it makes no sense.
