i remember for UPS you would have to work your way up to be a driver. I used to work in the warehouse loading/unloading trucks and if we wanted to, we would have to work our way up to driver. i was like 17, that was a long ass time ago. Those fools get paid good money.

Yea, you have to start out unloading trucks and shit. For that, you usually get paid next to nothing and I believe most folks in that position only work part time. But once you get to driver, you get caked up.

yeah... my dad's friends baby mama drives a truck for UPS... she's done it for years... and my boy's dad drives a truck for Fed-Ex... he makes cool money... got a pretty fat house, and supporting a family

he said e he really gets cashed out when they're busy and he has to put in OT

but yeah, like everyone else said... think you gotta start out as a handler... unloading/loading trucks... then work your way up

I had friends that did UPS for years. They were made members of the teamsters union just as unloaders of trucks not even drivers.

Unloading trucks at Best Buy & Toys R Us type shit is NOTHING like what you do at UPS though. You bust your ass there. From what I understand anyway.

You get paid pretty well from what I remember and get decent benefits thanks to the union.

a UPS unloading job was phsyically the hardest job ive ever had. Its non-stop moving, big ass boxes up to 50 pounds. Which is why its mostly part time, i would go nuts doing that all day.

Scan...load...scan.......load..........scan............load............scan........load, whoops wrong truck, back on belt, ................scan.................load.....................scan................load................, oooh someones shipping a gun? maybe i can use it to kill myself?!

Fuck. I'm with FDS.

I did the unloading job for a whole 2 days, before I said fuck this...keep your 10 bucks an hour!

I worked the 'twilight' shift, which was 4am to 8am...as if it isn't hard enough to throw around 50lbs boxes with the supervisor constantly coming around and telling you to pick up the pace a little bit...I had to do this in zombie mode.

From my understanding, you have to do unloading or loading or some of the grunt work before you can be a driver.

i knew a couple of people that had that job and said the same thing. It came to the point where we would say when asking if a certain job is hard work the answer would be something like "its not like working for Ups".

I worked seasonal for UPS for two years... It was cool riding on the trucks delivering packages but once they put me to unload the trucks graveyard shift for something like 8.88 an hour i was like fuck that....

my older brother works for ups, he's a driver now, it took him like 3-4 years of loading/unloading, but now he makes around 30 an hour...

the funny thing was these bastards at UPS wouldn't hire me on full time in the same building here in Modesto cuz I have family that works there (my brother) I guess they had family members stealing before or some shit.. but during holiday peak season they let me on the truck while my brother was the driver... didnt make no sense....

anyway tho, if you dont want an education, and you can bare it for around 3 years with back breaking work and little pay, then it can pay off in the end for you....

whats up with the part time shit though? say its even 10$ an hour 25 hours a week...you cant live off 250$...and some of the hours you guys have worked are in no way managable if you want a second job to support yourself...i think i'll stop a ups guy next time i see one and ask him some questions..

Most guys use the UPS thing as a second job. I did.

Great benefits, for part time hours. That's what kind of makes the low salary worth it. The benefits are really good.

You have to be a package handler like loading trucks and sorting boxes for like atleast 2 years till you can become a driver.. its tough work they have a helpers job around christmas that i did and theres alot of running. it is fun thought because your just out there.. you can smokke while you deliver.. and my driver got paid 27 bucks an hour.. and he said he didnt ever get UA'ed
