and u consider urself an intelligent reader, u might want to check out John Milton's "Paradise Lost". Its extremely difficult to read, mostly because its 17th century British Epic Poetry (considered by many "the greatest epic poem/story ever written in English"). Its the story of Man's fall from Grace, and it contains historical, religious, and mythological allusions. its a bit lengthy, but it was extremely controversial because Milton, intentionally or not, didn't necessarily glorify Satan, or want the reader to sympathize with Satan, but to make Satan interesting, and he made God's plan in the story somewhat bland. anyone that has read this or does read it, i'll be glad to discuss it with u.
