Dirty Shoez, bka Tadou. People wanted more Bill Belichicks and less Rex Ryans; more Ernie Johnson and less Charles Barkley.....so that's what they got. The result is the banality you see before you today. This forum is routinely opening-act warm when it used to be pre-headliner hot. Sure, that never really correlated with album sales, but at least it kept you plugged in. Its easy to say "I'm too busy to be on here" when there's no drama or excitement to keep you coming back.

For my part, I wish I could say I cared and that I'll do my part to get things back going, but I kind of don't...and won't. Now that I think about it, being jaded is so much easier than trying to be productive. I should have tried it a long time ago.

What up foo! You still up at Western? By the way, you'll find being jaded doesn't help with anything. Neither does being cynical...I know right, take my own advice, hahaha...

And yeah...there's no reason to try doing anything. We have some decent artists, but no buzz outside the region...I think Cool Nutz is probably the only artist who's got decent marketing schemes and shit.

Back in the day, there was a chance for this region to make a move. I think that time has now passed. I'll still listen to the music I like though regardless.

i think some/alot of it has to do with street level being defunct.

those were definitely the good ol days...crytical's album, steve's..mo x li g, young vicious ect.

i only hope street level comes back at some point...an what about crytical ? would be great to have another solo from him.

hopefully steve drops a new album sooner or later....everyones hungry for that heated mobbery, maybe even LnL if his album drops, who knows.

Hey Tadou, remember when you talked shit on Cool Nuts and other northwest rappers actually making money (and still making money) about how you were going to blow up, and do tons of shows and sell shit loads of albums? Did that ever happen? Sorry to be a dick but that pissed me off back then because it was annoying to see a nothing (you) talk shit on people actually doing stuff (everyone else). And seeing how you're name and cds are everywhere there days i feel like you won. Please continue with a long winded big worded explanation...

I don't really need to...especially when you don't have any quotes or links. Most of the ranting and raving about album sales was, most likely, talking shit about artists who can barely whip through 1000 CDs in the Seattle-Tacoma area (almost 3 million residents), while rinky-dink Aberdeen/Grays Harbor (combined 50K or so) gobbled up all 500 of my/our group's CDs. Explain to me how that isn't hilarious.

This area is ripe for the picking. Always has been, always will be. But as long as artists continue to try to emulate California and all the other indy label bullshit--shows with 15 opening acts, top names repeatedly pushing back albums (promising a masterpiece when they finally drop), spending untold thousands on features/studio time/beats instead of mixing-mastering and replication--the area will continue to be most prominently represented by backpackers and other people who have lesser rap talent, but manage their finances and priorities better.

Look, I apologize that Kurt Cobain, arguably the most successful NorthWest artist of all Time, was originally from Aberdeen. I'm sorry for that. But you've got to learn the lesson. The best way to build a fan base is by touring smaller cities, THEN coming into SeaTac/Portland and hitting it HARD.....NOT by wasting all your money on recycled Yukmouth verses, 17 condenser microphones, and ads in Murder Dog. Seriously, I'm getting sick of this shit. It's not rock science.

Here's how I see it. Its basically impossible to make a big impact when every artist is their own label. Its essentially the Rock Music model--if you don't have a single that absolutely catches FIRE, you're fucked, because people may associate YOUR NAME with quality music, but not the Label (aka YOUR TEAM) as a whole. So in-between releases, where are you? Exactly...on other labels' albums--which they may or may not release around the same time you're gaining (or losing) steam. It's too much fluctuation, and too much weight on your shoulders. Your legs might be strong enough to squat 600lbs, but without that foam pad on the bar, you're going to fuck your shit up.

What we need is the equivalent of a Worldwide Wes to come through and do like with the Miami Heat. D-Menace is right about the effects of SLR being inactive (i refuse to apply the words folded or defunct): when you heard the SLR name, you knew it was going to be a quality effort. There was a 0% chance it was going to be a sloppy mess, and a 98% chance you were going to like it...a lot. The Artist's name didn't supersede or preempt the Label name.

This...MacGuinn...may also be what you're thinking of with me "talking shit" about Cool Nutz. To get the most out of his label, he simply must sign more artists and release more albums. Our best hope is that he (by whatever means necessary) grabs Syko and/or Nonstop, and forces an album and tour out of it. No waiting 3 years to make a masterpiece, just use up all those spare verses/hooks that I'm 195% sure they have in DROVES. Fans would go nuts for it. The #1 hurdle would be...you guessed it...Whose Label. And a Tri-Label album would turn into a complete slopfest.

What the fuck was I talking about again?

Uh...yes, yes I'm in Bellingham. Its a cool city, but no place to build a rap empire. As soon as I can get a good-playing job in the area, you'll see me around. I've got artist management on my mind, but I sure as shit have never shied away from a microphone with a beat cued up and ready to go...
