I did the history of lowriders along with a lowrider video as my graduation project from high school 4 years ago...
Lowriders started in East Los Angeles. "Bombs" as there were called were the old cars that they put wire wheels on, and they jacked hydraulic systems from airports to put them into their cars. By the way, this culture was part of the horse culture that was so popular with Spaniards. I believe it was mostly Mexicans that started lowriders, then everyone else copied them.

San Jose!!!!!!!!!!!!!i have a copy of the 1st issue of Lowrider......i did my reading.....and from what i've read or remember they say SAN JOSE. BUT i could be wrong.....i'll have to search for that magazine and read it again(it was 2 yrs ago that i got ahold of it, but i'll look for it and type it when i get a chance).
I don't know about New Mex. but i'll look into that.......
...most sites containing the history of lowriders, or, the art of customizing cars, recognizes the Barris Brothers as the first dudes to make lowriders...
...now, the Barris Brothers were originally from Chicago, but didn't start customizing seriously until after WWII and they moved to LA...their first shop was in Bell, but they outgrew that and moved to Compton...
...research for yourselves and see if you can confirm or refute the info...it's a good thread to practicing researching something you're interested in, but seriously....we all know that Mexicans popularized low-riding, but it's petty if you just wanna know so you can provide more fuel for the north and south beef....
