why the sudden change from coming out with LPs? did the music get that bad to the point where trying to make a classic album is useless because itunes will break your LP up anyway?:ermm:

Im not sure either, but the cost to produce an EP vs LP should be much less(time, effort, cost) and the reward might be the same(if not more)...an EP to many sounds more attractive, especially if people going to just download your s--t anyway...I guess selling an EP for $6.00 is much easier than an LP for $13.00...these are just guesses though...no facts..

Depends on the artist.

Tech dropped an EP in the summer, then turned around and dropped that Whoo Kid mixtape in December, and is writing now for his album in June.

It's not an excuse as far as cutting back to save embarrassment for a bad product.

He buys his beats in bulk, so only buying what he wants for an EP to cut cost doesn't make sense either.

He's not under contractual obligations to get out of a contract, so making it for the sake of having a UPC stamped on it and marking it off the "only a few more to get off this label" list doesn't make sense either.

He did it solely to capitalize off of the K.O.D. album and to appease his fans until his next project.

I can see how it would be a money saver to do it, but everyone has their own reason for doing it.

i think tech is the exception . he drops quality shit. has a fan base willing to purchase and support him. i think he'll be straight with what ever he drops. in my opinion

EPS are a great idea if they're created using the best tracks. There also more appealing to people who are considering buying a new artist they've never supported because they're cheaper.

Along with simply being easier/quicker to make something with half as many tracks, it also may serve to help keep your name out there. For instance, you drop a 14 track album in january and people forget about it in a couple months and then it takes you another year to drop another 14 track album. With an EP you could drop it in January then July so you hit people with new shit more often to keep your buzz going a little more throughout the year rather than.

just a thought

remember in teh 70s & 80's every release had less then 10 songs on it due to records space. but now Its a different purpose EP(my meaning of it is Extra Promo) is the new street album. and its easier for digital purposes too. pretty soon physical cd releases are gonna vanish like cassette tapes. only cd gonna be left are cdr to burn the digital product on
