well taking a song and trying to get just the instrumentals is kinda hard.. Goldwave is one program. the hard part is leveling the vocals and instrumentals, it's hella hard to cancel out the vocals. your best bet is to loop a song to get the instrumentals. for that i would use Super Mp3 Editor.,

Acid or whatever they call it now is what I used to use, try www.acidmusic.net and they should have a free trial version. It's one of the most easy to use programs I've fucked with. Try searching in The Studio forum on here too.
