does the bay have the potential to be a mainstay player like LA, NEw York and Atlanta? or would our maximum output be equal to lets say, Memphis, Houston or Chicago? or are we like St Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit and other places with a few one hit wonders and 1 posterchild artist spread out over a few yearS?

Im a realist and know that the lack of sheer amount of people in the bay to become artists, producers, dancers and most importantly fan base etc. capps our success when compared to other larger hiphop/rap metropolitan areas.

so i pose this question to the realist who have been on this board for almost 9years or so, and can understand where Im comin from. WHat is the bay's true potential for CONTINUED maintstream but first and foremost Bay Area success?

THis is for those who have seen the BAy artists featured in 'Unsigned Hype' and not had any major change in maintstream appeal, seen Bay videos on BET, and heard hit bay songs on the radio gettin much luv, heard mf's like Mac Mall on major motion pictures... and understand that the Bay (not individual artists! - the collective Bay) shines and then goes back into relative obscurity every decade or so..

I guess this post is one of those where I can hear from some of the folks not blinded by 40's summer success, and the few years of radio luv that were preceeded by years of no luv... shit last time i checked bay songs dont even dominate KMEL or 94.9's top 15 on the playlist.. so why should we be stormin the country if we cant command our own stations?

I just wanna see what people think.. because I hate to feel like a hater when i see folks gettin all hype cuz of what the bay has done as of late. But for those of us who have been around for a minute know that the Bay has been here and done that, but are eager to know if its gonna stay this way and only get better and not just taper off in a few months or weeks

the reasdon why bay shit aint dominating the top 10 on our major local stations is cuz they all INDEPENDANT labels that putting the shit out and aint go tthe cheese like all the majors who are cashing out clear channel to play their music in constant rotations numerous times per hour...

the top ten songs they are playing are being played becuase clearchannel is gettin cashed out to play that shit.. its all money and politics...

I agree, it isn't a big deal to me anymore for the Bay to blow up major...my thing now is getting as many people as possible in the bay to actually listen to the music.

The reason why I think the Bay wont blow up right now is because we are being typecasted as dumb/hyphy and that's it. Nobody really knows that there are other rappers out here that don't do all that shit. E-40 got his foot in the door, but it hasn't swung open yet, you know?

i think people dont understand what im hinting at.

basically put I wanna know if you can compare the bay to another region of the country that puts out hits and "movements" which would we be like over time? Chicago, Memphis, Houston, Miami, Seattle, St Louis etc.

r we the type of area that comes about every decade or so, or are we capable of bein an area similar to NY, LA or ATL.. where hits stay leakin out and trends are always bein taken from... Im not askin if the bay is gonna go mainstream. IMO people want the bay to become the next NY, LA or ATL and i dont think we have all that shit in place yet to be that much of an impact on the whole rap game

THE BAY NEED TO TAKE OVER ITS RADIO STATIONS...WHEN U GO TO OTHER STATES THEY PLAY ALOT OF THE MUSIC FROM THE ARTIST AROUND THEIR AREA...THE STATIONS IN THE BAY DID NOT EVEN REALLY PLAY BAY MUSIC TILL THAT ONE RADIO STATION i FORGOT ITS NAME BUT, IT CAME ON THE SCEENE PLAYING MUSIC FROM ARTIST AROUND,tHEN THE OTHER STATIONS STARTED LOOSING LISTENERS,THEN THEY STARTED SUPPORTING THE BAY A LITTLE, WHEN THAT STATION WAS TAKEN OFF THE AIR,THE OTHER STATION STILL SHOWED SOME LUV BUT NOT WHAT WE NEEDED. IF YOUR NOT APART OF THE SELECTED ARTIST THAT GET PLAY"NO NEED TO MENTION NAMES" U WILL NOT GET RADIO PLAY....ANDS THATS WHY WE DONT DO IT MOVING WE DONT SUPPORT ARE OWN
