What pc cofiguration do you reccomend?

I'm gettin a new pc soon but im not really sure whats best, and how high quality on certain features i really need to go, to get good performance without spending too much.

1. Processor (intel Pentium 4 or Amd XP?)
2. Ram (128/256/5??/1gb) and (2?? ddr or 333 ddr?)
3. Hard drive speeds (access time) and buffers (2 or 4mb?)
4. Sound Card???
5. Usb 1.1 or Usb 2?

512MB of Mushkin Basic DDR RAM @ www.mushkin.com
get an 80GB 7200 Maxtor Hard Drive and later get another one for backup storage.
Get a Creative Sound Card
get USB 2.0
