It comes in around :55 seconds into the song. Now, I have gone through a bunch of VSTi's preset patches, Gone through the patches on the keyboard. There are some that come close...but don't cut it. It has that early 80s sound to it. Anyone got any idea as far as synth settings go to get that sound?

yeh don't sound like anything special. There's hella patches in the motif basses that sound close to that. The fantom has a few to, maybe just mess with the cutoff and reso. to get it to cut through like that, but sounds like a standard synth bass just tweaked a lil bit. .

If you ever want a module that is strictly for bass and leads....the Studio Electronics ATC is hot...I could go on and telly ya you heard them sounds from Battlecat, Dr Dre, DjQuik but I wont...ooopppps...Haha anyways Its a mono synth..I have the older version and I can honestly tell you that it has every synth bass you could imagine..and its an Analog module..not VA.. and it has an interchangeable filter system..I have the MINI Filter..but you can get the ARP filter..SEM, TB, ...Anyways Its my favorite synth I have owned and I had the moog voyager....which is just as capable..but the ATC has so many sounds out the box that you aint gottta really tweak nothin...

I agree with Vince. The bass sounds like a basic preset you could probably pick out and replicate by minor tweaking. I could replicate this on the Spectrasonics Bass Trilogy VST. That beat is clean, but that drum sample/rhythm has been done to death. Yet, never seems to get old?

Doberman I heard you use the Fantom, listen to Vince V, he knows the Fantom well, you should be able to replicate that bass. I do hear a slight cutoff/res in the bass, find a patch that sounds similar and play with the mod a bit.

However if you use VST's also, I recommend the Bass Trilogy VST. It's a monster.

ATC is classic vintage, I wish I could get my hands on equipment like that. Props.

if you go into the Fantom X and go through the synth bass category there's a patch called Reso SynBass, that you can get real close to that with a couple turns of the cut and reso, i was just messin with it, eq it right and it could be dead on

Yeah, sounds like something a lot of VA's could do. Minimoog V, Minimonsta,...

Heck, try the freeware "PolyIblit" VSTi. It's a really good sounding VA that's capable of nice synth bass and leads. The first patch called "SectionOne" actually comes pretty close.

You could also get a book on sound synthesis if you really want to get your hands dirty. Once you truely understand how the sounds are created, it's easy to duplicate them.

^^Any recommendations? My first project is aimed at 2D/3D indie game designers. I've been a member of this one gaming/programming forum for a few years now...and everything I've heard them use were all "canned" sounds or sounds from a sample CD aimed at music producers. I could re-sample and tweak the presets and give the patches funky names...but I think I would be cheating myself and them as well. So any recommendations would be very helpful.
