"Emo" is short for "Faggot."

For a more extensive definition, see below:

Emo

What is emo? A postmodern escape into a netherworld of emotion

What's the look? Check out How to Dress Emo 2.0 www.dobi.nu/emo/ Guys, get your Gap pants, your lame T-shirts and arrange your hair in a mock mop look. Girls, add a vintage track suit jacket and Diesel jeans. Horn-rimmed glasses and slick black hair help, too.

What's it like? Remember grunge?

The music: Emotionally charged punk rock. The Jets' "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", Pinstripe, Dashboard Confessional, Pedro the Lion

Where is it in the mainstream? Check out those "I'm Lovin' It" McDonald's commercials and Apple iPod ads.

The backlash: Check out www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palms/4891/emo.html

Bob your head along with the music, but remember lesson (6) - ACT UNINTERESTED. Even if this is your favorite band in the world, you MUST NOT sing along, or even cheer after songs. Just applaud.

lol damn they are stupid as fuck.

here's some characteristics...

-long hair parted to the front to cover half of face, kinda like a longer version of the mushroom haircut
-dark make-up... black eye-liner, lipstick, black painted finger nails..
-tight mu-fuckin jeans that hug their legs
-tight shirts.. esp t-shirts where they show their bones cause they're scrawny
"vintage style" so weird/random clothes. sometimes an old blazer
-sometimes rectangular black plastic glasses
-most importantly, always looking depressed.. heads down all that shit

now beware if you spot them, they might cry because they get easily hurt when you make fun of them!

Goths don't like emo kids. Emo kids are basically some skinny ass dudes that wear girl pants, pierce their lips in odd places and have the cow lick hair style.

its funny how people want to be against society and dress a certain way, yet they're being conformists by doing the same thing with others of the same ideology

I think that the funniest thing about all this is without a doubt, the idea that these emo kids are all probably joined together on some message board calling all of you guys fags for the way you present yourself.

What is more rediculous, a band that sings about real emotions and events directly surrounding their life, or a rapper talking about all of the useless unimportant material items that he/she doesn't, and probably will never posess in their life.

I've come across many of these "emo" kids as you say, and not a single one of them were depressed nor did they have any desire to kill themselves.

By the way, that website about how to be emo was pretty damn funny. Grab one of dads button-ups he uses to do yardwork with HahAH

Struck a nerve, eh?
Hmmm. It rattled my nerves in no greater way than had this post been stereotyping country artists, or folk music for that matter. I simply observed a misconception and I assessed it accordingly. You guys can collectivley hate anything you desire, but so long as you know nothing about what you say, I'm going to shed light on it.
