DOES IT HAVE TO BE OLD? SOMETHING DIFFRENT? OR JUST BACK TO BACK KNOCKS?

TO ME A CLASSIC C.D TO ME IS WHEN SOMEBODY RAP ABOUT SOMETHING ABOUT DIFFRENT ON MOST OF THE SONGS AND THE BEATS,LYRICS AND FLOWS ARE ALL ON POINT. NOT JUST BLABBIN ABOUT THE SAME SHIT ON EVERY TRACK.

HOW ABOUT YALL.

seems like no one says anything droppin recently is a classic, people too stuck in the past....everyone says i like the old C-Bo, I like the old beats, I like the old Lynch, I Like the old Raided, I Like the old production, the old everything...I like hearing a solid mix of all kinds of different beats and topics the rapper is talkin bout, not 16 copies of track 1...a versatile cd where you can just tell the artist and the producer put in 110% effort and it slaps in your cassette player....!!!

^^^ Very true. Look at the Fugees album "The Score" That right there was ahead of it's time and is a mad ass classic.

A lot of artists I notice are trying to make bay area classics off older material and/or familiar artists and not anything new or original. Money and label bullshit also distorts the originality and the points of view as well!

As shitty as the market is in the Bay right now, its gonna take a REALLY innovative and fresh artist to make a classic. The best bay classics were the older albums because only a select few were making them. Back then the market was limited to those who were naturally talented and weeded out the bullshit.

But these days, anyone can make a damn album. There isnt a "survival of the fittest" type of situation anymore. Even the veterens are coming weak these days.

I couldn't wait for someone to peep that

PLEASE BELIEVE IT!!! Why not? That album is tight and every song belongs on there. I've listened to it over and over and over and it's still super tight. My girl even bumps this album. So don't diss cuz it wasn't a major success. Congratulate.

Yep its all a matter of opinion.

bsleezy is sayin Blueprint 1, I think that album had its fair share of good songs but out of all of Jay Zs shit I'd say Reasonable Doubt or Vol 2.

A classic to me is filled with innovative ideas and powerful lyrics that make one think. Out of the Mainstream I'd say Nas Stillmatic is a classic

Baywise I'd say

E-40-In a Major Way
N2Deep-The Golden State
Free Agents-Negotiations

Great Albums!

Yeah, SGC said it all--a classic has to be something that'll still sound great five-ten years down the road. What's popular today might not sound so dope tomorrow...
