an idea i've had for a while now is what would the world be like if money / some other form of currency didnt exist?
less homelessness? banks & other financial institutions wouldn't exist making space for homes. The people who build these homes build them for free because money doesnt exist so is not needed for survival. the people supplying the building materials supply them for free.
no one would starve. you go into a shop and take whatever food you need without payin, and so on..
in short, all the things in life that require money are done free of charge meaning everyone has an equal chance..
so would it work? would the world be a better place if money didnt exist or am i missing something? share your thoughts

actually if there was no money there would be something else used in its place..man kind likes competition and being competitive so they would use some other types of means of control. perhaps gold and honesty speaking if money currency went under out of no paper value then the next best thing would be gold. if you take a look at event anchient civalizations you will notice that there was always some rudimentry form of power and control..money wouldnt stop a dam thing (Your thinking more on the lines of world peace but everyones mind will not think the same and there can be no world peace realistically speaking..there will always be some type of war whether within political debate or actual warfare itself)

am i the weirdo here? cause i still wouldn't mind going to work... =/
as long as my rent is free, i wouldn't mind still gettin up and doing stuff.

actually, i would feel that much better about doing things, i'd know that i didn't NEED to, but rather enjoyed to do it.
maybe i'm not thinking about everything?

but yeah i think daluvlymel is right about the fact that its more along the line of peace rather than something just not existing.

You can look at money as a natural product of evolution and something that is guaranteed to evolve no matter how you rewind the tape of evolution and history

Because money is in essence a substitute for energy, it gives you the power to command energy to do the things that you want. Thus, any culture that arises will inevitably come to invent trade and in turn money, because the increased use of energy is what marks the development of civilization

So a world without money could probably evolve only after a world with money existed prior to it, and even this is very improbable IMO

CAN YOU PEOPLE TRY AND GET OUT OF YOUR FUCC'N' TECHNICAL MINDS
AND JUST TRY TO IMAGINE!!! KINDA LIKE THE WILD WEST!!!
EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES!!!

AWWWW FUCC IT, IT'S TOO EARLY FOR THIS!!! LOL!!!
BACC TO BED FOR ME!!!

There is no incentive to do anything for free.

Just like ThaG said, if we were to magically do away with money, it would evolve back almost instantaneously. Money is just a representation of the value of a good or service. Theoretically, we could all just exchange our goods or services for other goods or services, but money makes this process a lot easier and more balanced.

if there was no money we would trade cows for apples, or whatever... build your own house. grow your food. trade with people. that's the way i wish the world was. i hate money.

You should make a "we are the world" record haha

Really though... Its self preservation

I'm thinking about Indian tribes, and everyone played a role. You a hunter or a gather a warrior? Tribes inter traded goods I'm sure

Like ThaG said money has evolved and will continue to. Right now we use paper slips and coins to represent given value amounts, more and more it's becoming electronic and I believe it will eventually become totally electronic. All it is is a uniform representation of value which makes trading easier and faster.

It makes it possible for specialization, everyone in society has specialty jobs, no one has to grow their own food, knit/sew their own clothes, do their own services, etc. Like an assembly line, modern specialization allows things to move much faster than the old way and allows for our quality of life. We (majority of people in the U.S.) are all able to gain personal services, able to have other people make and cook our food for us, able to have many different pairs of clothes made by other people, able to afford means of transportation etc. All these things would have been reserved for someone of high social status a few thousand years ago. We live like kings. None of this would have been possible if money had not made it easier to trade goods and services.

Without money (if the slips of paper and coins suddenly became invaluable) it would do nothing but slow things down for a while until replaced with another uniform representation of value, it would cause an economic crisis, a temporary depression, IMO.
