What do you guys think? I don't think he's bluffing. I also supspect that North Korea and Iran are STRONG allies. I saw a couple of reports from different news agencies that said that there were Iranian officials at the last tests the North conducted on July 4th. I wonder if Iran will be present for this one? Besides sanctions what else could possibly be done to punish North Korea besides war. Seems like Iran and North Korea are tag teaming the U.S right now.

I'm in the Army, I'm here in Korea, and let me tell you no one is trippin. And that's not just from an Americans point of view it's the ROK army's point of view also. Everybody thinks he's full of shit and even if he did try and do somethin he wouldn't get very far.

Everybody wants to holler about how viscious the North Korean Army is but the ROK Army ain't no joke either. Don't get it twisted. It's a desperate act from a desperate man. Fuck him, and his feeble grasps at power. His own people hate him, they're just not allowed to say so.

If they're was a war it would be just like the first Desert Storm. Hella mothafuckas would be surrrenderin before it even started. Cuz when you rule by fear it's easy to sway the people. You jus gotta be more feared. Feel me?
We don't even need nukes, we'll shit on Kim Ill's army with the firepower we got now. hahaha! And he knows it. That's why he's doin all the stupid shit he does now. Cuz he's losin control over his country.

I've been to Iraq, I've seen what we can due to whole cities in three days with jus a couple choppers, tanks, and bradleys.

Nothing has been done to create any kind of incentive for North Korea not to go forward with it's nuke program. Any "punishment" short of war will engourage them to go forward with the program, as it has done thus far. Military attack will only prove them correct for going forward with the program.

Neither North Korea nor Iran is a direct threat to the actual U.S.A. there is no tag team in that respect.

The Republic of Korea Army (ROK Army, ROKA, Korean: 대한민국 육군) is by far the largest of the military branches, with over 560,000 effectives as of 2004. This comes as a response to both the mountanous terrain native to the Korean Peninsula (70% mountanous) as well as the heavy North Korean presence, with its 1 million strong army, two-thirds of which is permanently garrisoned in the frontline near the DMZ.

They are going to do the test this weekend.

N. Korean soldiers cross DMZ amid tensions
Troops retreat after warning shots fired; nuke test possible this weekend
NBC News and news services

Updated: 8:43 a.m. PT Oct 7, 2006
UNITED NATIONS - South Korean troops fired warning shots Saturday after five North Korean soldiers crossed a boundary in the Demilitarized Zone separating the two countries, South Korean military officials said.

The incident occurred shortly before noon near a stream in the largely deserted no man’s land, and came amid tensions over North Korea’s recent announcement that it plans to test its first nuclear bomb.

The U.N. Security Council warned North Korea on Friday of unspecified consequences if it carries out a nuclear test and urged the secretive, communist nation to abandon all nuclear weapons as it promised last year and cancel plans to detonate a device.

The council acted amid speculation that a nuclear test could come on Sunday, the anniversary of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il’s appointment as head of the Communist party in 1997. Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi, currently in Washington, told the Japan’s TV Asahi: “Based on the development so far, it would be best to view that a test is possible this weekend.”

However, a North Korean foreign policy analyst told NBC News " it's not time yet" to conduct a nuclear test.

Asked to comment on the heightened international concern over reports that Pyongyang could conduct a nuclear test this weekend, the North Korean analyst said on Saturday:

"As to when we will conduct a nuclear test, it depends on how President George W. Bush reacts to the ultimatum..We can see some good results already. President Bush and his Vice-President are now more careful with their words. I think, it is not the time yet for the test."

The analyst, who did not wish to be identified, is engaged in developing policy options for dealing with the United States for North Korea's Foreign Ministry.

South Koreans fire warning shots
Meantime, it was unclear whether the North Korean advance Saturday was intended as a provocation, an official at South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said on condition of anonymity, citing official policy.

“It’s not clear whether it was intentional or whether it was to catch fish,” he said, adding that four of the North Korean soldiers were unarmed, while one was carrying a rifle.

They advanced about 30 yards past the Military Demarcation Line separating the two armies before retreating to their own side after South Korean forces fired about 40 warning shots, the official said.

The South Korean side also broadcast warning announcements from speakers positioned along the DMZ, telling any advancing North Korean troops to turn back.

There were no injuries, the official said.

Test dependent upon U.S. sanctions
With tensions rising, Kim met hundreds of top North Korean top military commanders and urged them to bolster the nation’s defenses, as officers cheered, “Fight at the cost of our lives!” the North’s official Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday.

A North Korea expert in China, the North’s closest ally, said only the removal of American economic sanctions against Pyongyang could dissuade the country from carrying out a nuclear test.

“North Korea has already made a decision to carry out a test,” said Li Dunqiu, of China’s State Council Development Research Center, a Cabinet-level think tank. But “if the U.S. removes sanctions ... then tensions can be eased. Otherwise launching a nuclear test is unavoidable for North Korea.”

The United States imposed economic sanctions on North Korea last year to punish it for alleged counterfeiting and money laundering. For the last 13 months, North Korea has boycotted six-nation talks aimed at persuading it to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

North Korea said Tuesday it decided to act in the face of what it claimed was “the U.S. extreme threat of a nuclear war,” but gave no date for the test. Washington has repeatedly said it has no intention of invading North Korea.

Both China and Russia have urged the United States and North Korea to hold talks, which Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said Friday “could be useful in resolving the situation.” But he said U.S. Ambassador John Bolton informed the council that there would be no North Korean-U.S. talks except in the margins of resumed six-party talks.

Bolton said the Security Council needs to adopt a long-term strategy to deal with North Korea but the top U.S. priority now is to stop a nuclear test.

“We take the threat by North Korea seriously. We don’t think this is an attention-getting device of people waving their arm to say ‘see me, see me.’ We think this would be consistent with the unfortunate logic that North Korea has been following,” he said.

NBC News' Eric Baculinao and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Im with dobe, theyree not bluffing. Korea is chinas pawn, I dont know why its so difficult for people to see this. Take a history class or something that doesnt just talk about western europe and jamestown. I do think north korea and iran are allies, or atleast they have a mutual goal. The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

To the main question, ifthey go through with the test what will happen? Nothing, the current climate in the US is that of a huge pussy, the people are so scared of terrorism and confrontation now they just want to go back to the good ol days where they thought the world was our bitch. Ok so iraq is fucked up, the middle east isnt going as planned, but that doesnt mean we all need to turn pussy and turn towards isolationism. My prediction is that in the short term, we will be thebitch because we will stop checking people who need to be checked. Democrats will get elected, we will pull out of iraq, the world will view this is a great US failure, guerillas will be legitimized and emboldened we will let iran build their shit, we will let korea do what they want while we build hybrid cars and try to save the rain forest while rogue regimes finally get the nuclear technology we had 50 years ago, pussies will run this country, you dont think people are watching how we react to every situation? Yes thats pretty much my opinion.
You're a very good Mormon Mr. Smith.

North Korea and Iran have a history of trading technology and arms to one another with the hopes of developing nuclear arsenals. So what should be done? All economic ties to N. Korea should be cut off if they don't give up their nuclear program and the U.S. should directly threaten Iran with the use of force if they don't put an end to theirs.

Gosh, what an easy job.

off topic but since people briging up iran, it not the us who will attack the Islamic republic of Iran it will be israel think about who has more to lose if Ahmadajedad (or however the fuck you spell his name, lol) is close to the A-bomb, as far as Kim Il jong goes peeps think he crazy, Acutally he a good tatican right when the Bush autocrats are focused on Iran nuke situation, the Illegal occupation in Iraq(atleast illegal in mine and most the world view) and the recent Hezbollah/iran tatical sucess on gaining power in the mideast and recent victory over the more powerful israelis, old kimmie boy knows it time to move on his chessboard, i dont think he wants war but concessions from the us to leave northeast asia and to help out a tatical econmic and possibly ally iran out of a nose, and to get econic intatives from south korea, the us, UN ,japan or whoever will provide at this state in the game.

pgbd war with iran is not a option, there not like iraq they have the fastest underwater missle in the war, a awesome navy(its what needded this day if your in the persian gulf region), they have a milltia up to 7 million just decated ot humanwave attacks which pushed saddam hussien's army out of iran during the 1980's(when iraq was the mmilltary power back then), and the terrian of mountins land, desert region and also a population 3 times more the population of iraq and 3 times more the population of afghainstan will just cause Iran to be a terrible milltary campaign for anyone to plan up in the pentagon and North Korea the situation is worse were 1 million total could die in just a short term conflict alone and possible conflict down the road with our real historical rivals Russia and China.

And if the US threatens Iran with use of force (and actually goes through with it) how do you expect for it to be carried out? Bombing campaigns? Ground assault? Knowing the current "wars" are depleting american resources (money, troops and equipment) how do you expect for america to sustain its current wars, and fight an additional one?

I stopped reading after the first two sentences and laughed. How you can try to compare Iran's military to the U.S.'s is beyond me. Our firepower is unmatched and if we wanted we could blow them up a thousand times over. And I was alluding to threats of military action because you can't rationalize with irrational people, so you have to speak the language of force.

Yeah, 1 million North Koreans could die in a short term conflict. You got that right. And Russia and China are on our side in respect to this matter so I don't see how any threats or sanctions towards N. Korea would turn them against us.

Try some periods, commas, and capital letters next time.

Yup, now with the capabilities of the new bombs which can take out an estimated 1/3 of the World, damn, it seems death is inevitable. Then if you don't die, you'll suffer the after effects :(
