Contrary to popular media, hip-hop culture is more than rappers, dj's, and half-naked girls in videos. Just as African-American culture is more than criminals, welfare recipients, athletes, and entertainers. Hip-Hop culture has produced teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, politicians, and many successful entrepeneurs. Being young, poor, and living in America is a difficult situation to overcome. Social, political, economical, and educational systems are designed to keep the poor in their situation. In my lifetime i have witnessed and experienced, the many obstacles and traps that many young urban males fall victim too. Now is the time for Hip-Hop culture to take control of its destiny and define what Hip-Hop is and will be. Corporations may have hijacked Rap music, but Hip-Hop is always defined by, THE PEOPLE!

Hip-Hop is a way of life for urban, surburban, and disenfranchised youth across the globe. Because of hip-hoppers independence from conformity, appearance and music tastes, Hip-Hop culture gets labeled as dangerous and rebellious. However we are soldiers, survivors, and victims of Crack, Aids, Welfare Reform, cuts in Social Services, cuts in Education, increases in Incarceration, increases in Taxation, and the resurgence of Racism. Hip-Hop culture understands what is best to survive and thrive in today's world. Once Hip-Hop culture begins to work towards financial independence from Corporations trying to Capitalize on the culture, we have an opportunity to command political, financial, and social influence over a new generation of children growing up in a harsh world. Hip-Hop is a way of life that has emerged from the urban cities in America that we should continue to mold, shape, and guide for positive growth in ourselves and our communities. I love Hip-Hop culture and im proud to share it and teach it to my children. Hip-Hop is more than "Rap Music". It's a culture, and a lifestyle that i have embraced and I love.

True that, thats straight sober talk from ya Mo lol. I've embraced hip-hop aswell which had lead me to shut myself away from radio and televisions take on hip-hop. It's more than just music and it is actually a way of life, which leads to how one acts and is perceived by other people. I just try to share good music with people who are uneducated and brainwashed.

Please dont mislead the youth, dont say that hip hop is a Culture (notice the C), do you know what Culture means? Do you know how long it takes for Men to create a Culture? Hip Hop aint subversive, you cant be aware of whats goin on in this world with Hip Hop, be for real...

I aint no NIGGA but from i read of the black community and its struggle in the USA, i DO ASSUME that all the afro amrican fighters (rosa parks, malcom etc) of back in the days would be ASHAMED of Hip Hop and so called artists who are only entertainers, actors, liars and business man...

If you are ashamed of the culture then why are you on this site? Also don't give me that shit about mlk and malcolm x. MLK cheated on his wife and Malcolm X was in prison. So all that self pride shit needs to stop. Hip Hop is good and bad. Not all good or not all bad.
