This aint no disrespect to artist out there doin they thang right now but I can rember a time when SAC was just shittin on the whole rap game. I swear it felt like I could just go to tower pick dam near any album commin out of SAC and that shit would knock. These days I wont even but an album if I cant give it a good listin first. For real thow back when X was droppin hella albums, when highside, black market, AWOL were droppin back to back slapin albums. It just seem like SAC was on top of its game and now its like you might get a good album once every two years if even that. What do yall think happened and how do you think as a city we can get back there cuz SAC still got hella talent. It just seems like the prodution and the feel of the music just went in a totally different direction. Speak on it....

I still feel sac got talent. What you describe though as far as black market, x rated and awol i wasnt really in it that deep. I mean i copped like 2 albums all together from sac in my lifetime. I can tell you this it takes time to rebuild every scene and sac is on its way there tho forealz

I think we strayed away from doin' us, to followin' trends.

Being so close to the Bay, and having so msny transplants living here, it was bound to happen.

Sac has always had that mobb/gangsta sound, and the underground/backpack scene has flourished as well.

You could go to tower and cop all that good good because everyone was on a label that had disrtubution and money behind it. Nowadays, technology has everyone putting out their own stuff hand to hand or via the net. More places to cop from and way more artists to listen to.

I'm telling you what, for the first time in YEARS, the SAMMIES actually have groups nominated that are ALL making noise here and out of town.

I havent seen mid/downtown poppin like this since the early to mid 90's.

There are still some arrogant ass muthafuckas, but for the most part, It's a beautiful thing.

I'm proud of all the nominees and their crews for not fallin' into that little shit the SNR was trying to do to get us to be at odds.

I think more shows with acts from all sides need to happen ASAP.

I mean there are plenty of venues available, Tunnel 21. press club, destillery, the Silk Bars, etc.

Unity like that would be HUGE

^^thats true but right now its crackin. I mean shit i remember we did a rock show and we where the only hip hop group and we got support from all genres. Really its funny to say this but as far as hip hop in sac goes, we are all connected. For us we are not a mobb/gangster music group but most of the ones out here in sac who are on the mobb tip are like family to us. We all came from the same place you kno

This reminds me of the thread I created call "is sac hip hop half way dead".

When Sac was blowing up I was living in LA & I was always hittin the record store trying to find some new Sac shit. EVERYTHING from Sac was slapping back in the 90's. Seemed like Sac couldn't do nothing wrong on the music. Around the 2000's I noticed a shift in the music. When I moved out here in 2001 I saw about a hunid thousand niggas rapping & Hollis doing 80% of the production out here. I knew it was close to the end.

There's still talent out here but not enough good production. Even the the most skilled producers out here be slipping.

I also notice that there's not much motivation & momentum with the artist. I'm not saying cats gotta drop something every year but a lot of these niggas be having 3-4 year gaps between projects.

Some of these niggaz also be hurting their legacys by contiueing dropping material when its very clear that their good rapping days are behind them.

Unity is fine but not the answer. When it was just Awol & Black Market & maybe 1 or 2 smaller labels running around that was fine but for the last several years its been about a dozen different labels. That's bullshit. Only labels out here with real talent is C-Way & Nuttfactor Musicc. And even those 2 labels got a ways to go.

What i think the problem is. folks need to stop livin in the past... wishing this was the fuckin 90's still, man them days is done. we aint rockin cassette tapes no more, aint none of them old ass rappers gonna bring that shit back for you.. everytime i come on this board cats is still bustin nuts over shit the dropped 15 years ago, musiks different now, beats are way different, flows are different. Everythings changed. I admitt AWOL & Black Market was killin the game.. they had the hottest shit, but them labels is dead along with the artist they had. I mean fuck, you really think Lynch & Bo are just gonna come swoop down and save the 916 from death like superman, oh i mean spiderman... pleaze like that'll ever happen. We need to start focusing on the future of sac with some of these young cats tryin rip shit up. Cats who aint kickin down 40's door.

Here's what needs to be done... IMO

get 3 of the hottest producers in sac, each of the 3 producers cough up 5 beats each of the dopest beats you got (stop holdin on to them like your shitz platinum cuz it aint)... get five of the hottest artist from sac. (Real artist no favorizm) and im not talkin bout Crip nation allday, im talkin about real Dudes with dummy ass skills. Invest in a real graphic artist. Cough up some racks and get The Photodoctors or someone dope like that. Record at a real studio...meaning not 25 dollars an hour, where they never fuckin Vacuum.. and create the hottest shit Sac has ever been exposed to..itz not that hard folks.

yeah there is alot of talent out here.. i see it all the time. but the shit you AIN'T doin with your talent iz your own fault. Any the people with money to burn need to start investing they money better and wiser.

While I have no idea whether it constitutes a resurgence in Sac rap or whether the label will continue to put out consistent music, I've been pretty impressed with what the C-Way label is doing so far...their two compilations "Lyrical Octane" and "Death Threatz" weren't perfect but were definitely noteworthy, with beats that were often tight and a surprisingly diverse range of lyricists (older heads and newcomers) gracing the tracks...G-Macc, Sav Sicc, Skari, Bleezo, NoLove, Key Locc, the list goes on...

I have no idea how that whole scene is being taken in out in Sacramento as I'm from the east coast...I do know that those are some of the more intense and consistent records I've heard from up and coming hip hop artists anywhere. Many of those Sac cats make most of the up and coming rappers (East, West, Midwest, South, wherever) look downright lazy, at least in terms of flow and delivery. I hope the Sav Sicc album, C-Way "NWO" comp and other related projects will continue to improve on the formula they've been working on...

Lots of good comments....I don't think anyone really wants the old 90s music but mutha fuckaz do want good quality music. Its like a lot of artist just ain't got that passion no more and the biggest complaint I would have is that SAC lost its unique sound. We need to capture that shit again.

Even if Sac artist were dropping mixtapes I'd be happy.

Sacs best chance @ going major is C-Way & Nuttfactors. Nothing against Lynch, X or Bo but age is not going to allow them to go major now. I hear more about C-Dubb then I do a lot of the other artist. Atleast he's on the grind & keeps his face out there.

A Flowheiken/Flosheiken group album with a major backing would blow the roof off this bitch. That's what I wanna see more then anything outta Sac.

Lynch ismy fav but I gotta admit..... his chance @ going major longed passed him..... X's situation won't allow him to & even if he was released today, the fact he done spent over 15 years in the pen for killing somebodys mama won't allow him to cuz of politics......DE is cool but if the world aint ready for Tech N9ne or Esham then they aint ready for The DE. People will appreciatte his music more in the year 2019..... COS lost his touch the moment he dropped a solo album..... Hollow is overratted but still got a solid enough fan base...... Luni's music is through if u ask me.....With the right producers & backing P-Folks could be that nigga......Fig fell off & wasn't great to begin with...... I like Loki but the people lost faith in him after Ignition.....I still like C-Bo but his time is up. I'll still support him but he's not gonna carry the torch any longer....... Sicx? Well, he'll just fall in the classic catagory of What-might-have-been.

I could go on & on but u get my point.
