what equipment do u guys use? Just curious. I wanna hear some of yalls shit just to see if there are any real difference between the outcome of hardware vs. software. I dont make beats but i got homies that do. A few of them are into reason and frooty loops. I got others who use the Fantom X6 i think and one that uses the MPC 2000 with the ASR 10. I cant really tell the difference between them as far as quality. I wish i can upload shit but they will get pretty pissed off if i did. 2 months they say.

Right now I just have a basic setup at home.

I'm running an M-Audio Keystation 88 ES USB and some KRK's into an Audiophile USB. I also use an E-MU 1212 PCI for my Rode NT1 microphone and Behringer mixer. I'm going to get rid of my Behringer since I grew out of it very quickly, probably will get a nice Tube Pre Amp. Running my midi sequencing and audio recording / sampling through Cubase SX 3.0 on a fairly new Windows XP S2 system which I purchased about 2 years ago. My sounds come from VST/VSTi plugins right now. I have way too many to list, as well as FX plugins. I use T-Racks VST, Waves Diamond, Waves SSL, and a few other Waves products. So my library is virtually endless. I've been producing since mid November 2006. Roughly 5 months or so. Learning fast, upgrading fast, developing my style. My work prior to getting into production and composing was mainly recording and mixing vocals and tracks.

Here's a sample of something I'm working on, you can also check out the My Space page for more tracks.

I also diddle with Reason 3.0. I don't use it for sequencing because I find it's not developed enough, Reason is more of an instrument to me. So I Re-Wire it into Cubase SX and use it for sounds since it doesn't support VST/VSTi plugins and it also doesn't support Audio. I slave it on Cubase. :)

Peace

Incorrect. Cubase is not more of an "editing" program like Pro Tools. Nothing is like Pro Tools. Once they step their Midi Sequencing up Pro Tools will be once and for all considered the best. Even though it is now. Which I think Digi already did do, in the new 7.0. I use Cubase for it's MIDI functioning. It has good Audio features, also, and it has great plugin support.

Reason is an All In One beat making program, meaning, you either use what it supplies you, or what you can get from refills or samples, or you don't use it at all. Reason needs VST support, and Audio support, period. Then it will be a contender. That's why I strictly label it as one big instrument, because I Re-wire it and use it as one.

Peace.

why do u think lots of upcomming small time producers belittle software beatmaking programs? I even heard DJ Quik say shit, like music doesnt belong on computers.

And what do yall think is so great about pro tools. I keep hearing people talking about it. Even rappers. On the scratch magazines, almost every producer on there uses pro tools. Is that a beat making machine or another editor?

What does protools got on cubase other than forcing you to buy their proprietary ass hardware?

It's not the gear that makes you good.

BTW peeped your beats I was diggin it.

I never said Pro Tools was better than Cubase, different strokes for different folks, I personally love Cubase SX and would never use anything else as far as right now it gives me more than I need for sequencing as well as mixing, just with it's plugin support alone. I don't use or need Pro Tools, aslong as I can export tracks from Cubase to be mapped in Pro Tools then that's all I need. I do agree that needing the Digi Design hardware to run the software is a bummer for those who can't afford the hardware, it can be expensive, but that's all a part of what Pro Tools is all about, it's a standard.

I never said it was the gear that makes you good, all someone needs is an EAR and they are good to go. I have probably the most budget setup known to man as far as a hardware involved setup. Obviously I have more than someone just using Fruity Loops or what not, but when it comes to the Hardware combined with Software game, I'm on a TIGHT TIGHT budget. I rely on my limited hardware, my huge abundance of plugins and my software.

Thanks.

Updated the beat, added a Saw Lead, mixed it a little bit, check it out.

Is that supposed to be a joke? I hope so because if not you have a lot to learn.

That sounds like some expensive ass rent!

Glad your still doing your thing though, after going through that.

And thanks for the kind words on the music tip, I appreciate that, glad you feeling it.

I think Reason is a great program, it's very unique, the layout, the way it works, the synthesizers, the creativity put behind designing it. I enjoyed it a lot when I was using it, but without audio support for vocals and no plugin support, it needs more growth.
