What do you think about artist buying views, likes, subscribers, and comments to make there videos look like its getting alot of attention ? I see there are a boat load of companies now offering services for a little $$ to boost up your numbers. Does it help the artist or hurt the artist in your opinion ?

I don't think it does either way really, but that could just be for me. Just using youtube for example I can give a fuck less if a video/song has 10 views or 10 million views if I like it then I like it, if I don't then I don't. I guess the one plus could be that blogs, etc will notice a video/song is hot and might post it but that's about it.

I think Slaps right to an extent, you got your following

I disagree with Nuttkase tho on the level of if somebody has the computer open and there like "hey peep my boys video". I will give it a watch but I might get distracted and say fuck it. Now if the video had 10 million views I'm mostly likely gonna wanna see what the fuss is about. I think these "fake views" at least for the time being would generate interest and exposure.

These views ain't gonna make me buy shit but it will probably make me take one thorough listen

I think you will never know your true following if you do this.. just my opinion.
This!

I personally don't see the purpose of buying views, plays etc. I never have. It doesn't make any sense to do that. In my book, that falls in the same category as buying a kit to make the Chrysler 300 look like a Bentley or buying fake features / mixtape and trying to pass it off as real. Same goes for wolfin' about making moves etc. There is no real outcome. It just makes you look like an attention whore.

I believe in building / having an image, but many fail to see that there is a standard & a line to be drawn.

It hurts them because it will usually make them believe their buzz is a lot bigger than it actually is. At times it can help to have a lot of youtube views because certain people then become curious, but if you dont actually have anyone posting or looking for your videos in the first place, then it doesn't matter how many views you have.

Plus, the average artist that NEEDS to pay for views could probably spend that money in a much more productive way (quality improvement, features, etc).

All feelings aside, numbers do make a difference.
The bottom line is most people are more likely to check out something with 1.5 mil views vs. 10 views...

$.02

Again, is the outcome. Most of the stuff with less views ends up being some of the best videos on youtube. The ones with the most (for the most part) are straight garbage. It's the other way around on youtube. More views on youtube usually means people are viewing it and showing their friends, so they can laugh at how whack it is. It's not always a good thing. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Add fake jewelry to that list.

As a simple fan, I'm ignorant to numbers. I'm very bias towards my taste in music and artists geographically. When writing in terms of rappers $treet Cred is first for me.

Overall I think if the artist or their label decides to use their funds for marketing tools as such then more power to them, especially to the fuckin Hustla$ who chargin em to be faker than they already are.

When youtubeN I dont look at numbers just titles, whatever catches my interest. What if I'm the 4th to watch it then next week theres 4,000 views, wouldnt change my opinion on the artist or song, jus sayin.

I remember that song...its pretty brutal. :dead: Anyways, those are your personal feelings about numbers vs. quality and that's fine, but my point was - garbage or not, it doesn't really matter, 4 million views got your attention, and got them some attention...and most people would sell their right arm for any attention (good or bad) because *bottom line* if you work it right, 4 million views can translate into $$$ and opportunities that you might not have if the quality of your stuff was better but with 41 views it will probably get overlooked..

Didn't William Hung get a record deal?

Call it what you want but that is the reality of the situation.

Look at all these cats who made "motto diss" records....smh..

Lets be real..If motto was by mc gusto from ohio getting no hits do you think cats in the bay would have really been up in arms so much...probably not.

I'll say it again, if you are looking to capitalize or create new opportunities for yourself, numbers make a difference and a lot of these cats are looking to ride the coattails of anything that is going to increase their numbers..

That's why people find ways to bump their numbers.

Because numbers matter.

Period.

Do numbers really matter? IMO it really depends, but I do agree with what you've stated. I guess we can agree on the bottom line that people do anything for attention. Hence: Goes back to what I was saying about buying fake things to look the part.

I know a guy who was a struggling underground artist and talking about pressing his album through discmakers & not making his money back. How he wasn't really selling. He'd post his youtube videos & he had a few plays, but nothing extreme. He's reached a moment in his life where he's recently signed to a major & his numbers have skyrocketed. Just goes to show that numbers didn't play a role in him getting signed. It was talent. I can't say the same for William Hung though LOL!

The sad thing is, it's reached a point where it's all too extreme. A whole lot of underground rappers are as fake as people in Beverley Hills with multiple face lifts / plastic surgeries. What worked in the late 90's early millennium no longer works today. The whole fake it til you make it has gone so extreme that the general population of people are doing what underground rappers do. Social network places like facebook have become a bragging / pissing contest. Rappers & people flashing money like they're balling knowing damn well it's their income tax return. Or they broke a $100 bill into ones when they cashed their check from their job & wrapped a $100 bill around their "guap" of ones to take a picture.

Too much fake exposing going on & people are really stupid on putting themselves out there like that. Underground rappers / people faking it til they make it are as noticeable as Joan Rivers face.

not to take away anything from your dude, but unless he actually is making money for the label, numbers will continue to count. as far as numbers not having anything to do with talent, thats debatable. true with some, no so with others. but thats up to the labels to decipher. thats what they're in business for.

but it cant hurt.
