1. What comes to mind when you see this?

2. Why do you think this way?

3. How did you learn of the meaning of this flag/symbol?

There are no right or wrong opinions here. Hate it or praise it all you want, but please elaborate as much as you can. I have a reason for posting this and asking these questions which I will talk about it a later time, if need be.

Note: This (flag) has nothing to do with my own personal beliefs, just a topic for discussion.

civil war.

2. Why do you think this way?
that is what we were taught in school.

3. How did you learn of the meaning of this flag/symbol?
my own personal reading.

in school they taught us that that flag was the product of the south wanting to keep slaves. in school they never taught us that the reason the south wanted to separate was because their states rights were being trampled on by a federal government that was sympathetic to northeast industry and wanted to unfairly tax the south and their industries.

oh ya and we were never taught that the southern states had the right to separate from the USA.

and finally the part you are probly most interested in. i think people from the south have hung on to the flag for different purposes.

i think some see it as part of their culture (positive) and others use it to incite hatred towards blacks (negative).

yeah what most people said civil war, represented southern colonies and did symbolize wanting to keep slavery that's why they built this flag and threw away the original or whateva new vesion(at that time) of the american flag they had that represented the north, they even had there own presidential elections, i'm not sure which cracker ran the south at the time, and i do agree with jay deuce, rednecks come to mind
