when you're designing something for a client, and what you start out with actually looks nice, but then they keep asking you to make more and more changes that make it look worse and worse, and as a designer you know it doesn't look good with those changes, but the client actually thinks it looks better that way. i know you're supposed to please the client but what if what they want is ruinign the damn thing? this is ridiculous.

it's SO frustrating, and especially with websties, you tell them continuity is important between pages (like, everything should be cohesive & look like it's part of the same damn site) but then the client wants to do something hella DUMB. like to have one page look totally different than the others, or use some random color for the text that doesn't match, and it DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. and they actually think it looks better that way.

what would you do in this situation?

i know i'm getting paid to make the client happy, but it's getting to the point where, if i keep the changes this person wants, i would be embarrassed to have this in my portfolio.

Exactly....your not necessarily forced to include everything in your portfolio. Ive dealt with this too but I've stuck it out and learned to live with it. At the end of the day they're paying you to do things how they want it, so its all business. As dude said, just include your version of the project in your portfolio.
