OK, let me rephrase that then - you can't justify destroying someone just because they might, in the future, attack you. Americas attack on Iraq was not justifiable, it was for purely selfish reasons and in a world with no fuck-heads, it wouldn't have happened.
I agree.

I was watching the Godfather 2 the other day. Michael was inquiring about Rebels, and Roth told him their nothing. Then Michael said, there's one thing that struck me, Soldiers are paid to Kill and Fight, and Rebels do it out of free will. Roth told him, what do you think that means, Michael Corleone, "THAT MEANS THEY CAN WIN"

your only argument that the attack on iraq was not justifiable is because it was for purely selfish reasons. so if something is purely for a selfish reason then it is not justifiable? can you explain waht you mean exactly?

i have a feeling you say things that appear heartfelt or noble or what your parents told you an honorable man should say. but i also suspect you dont follow some of your own ideas to see the implications of them, and you probably dont live by them.

Doing something for purely selfish reasons isn't necessarily bad in itself. If you do something selfish which is unecessary and results in others getting hurt, then it is not justifiable. George Bush didn't need to attack Iraq - picture if he invested the $400 billion into renewable energy? We wouldn't need oil at all anymore! Instead, he decides that it is imperative that the U.S. control Iraq's oil (or the puppet government which 'controls' it), sending in thousands of troops and resulting in the deaths of ~600,000 Iraqis, all because he was selfish (he couldn't let Saddam sell the oil to someone who provided a better offer, such as China).

If I was hungry and decided to eat two of the three remaining cookies, even though I did nothing to deserve the extra cookie, leaving my brother with only one, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. If he asked for the cookie, and I smashed him over the head with a brick, stealing it and consuming it myself, then that's selfishness taken one step too far. George Bush assaulted Iraq with a metaphorical brick.

Regardless nhoj, why would I say things that are heartfelt and noble if I don't believe them - what, to convince those of you in GOM that I'm a good guy? I care little what you all think of me. I sometimes act selfishly, we all do - suggesting otherwise is greatly erronous. Show me one person on this board who claims to have never done anything selfish and I'll show you a liar. That doesn't mean I will do whatever it takes to get what I want. And please don't suggest that I don't see the implications in this argument, I'd prefer if you didn't take me as a fool. After all, it sounds as though you're the one with the ignorance issue here - very few people are either universally selfish or unselfish, there's a shade called 'grey' which exists between your black and white nhojsmith.

this talk of "necessary" and "need" is going to be almost impossible to agree on. I dont know what George Bush thinks about, but it seems that most of his followers felt it was "necessary" to attack iraq on the pretense of WMD. Now we didnt find WMD, this doesnt mean that WMD werent there (go ahead and insult me), or that saddam wasnt pursuing them. Assuming he had none, and didnt want them, if we felt it was necessary (even if we were mistaken) then it is justifiable? And do we "need" oil? To maintain our lifestyle yes, to survive no. "Need" and "necessary" are too EDIT: subjective, thats the point. You can always justify something.

on the pretense that your brother was planning on killing you and destroying your cookies. oh, and your brother also tried to kill your dad, so you already are suspicious.

i think you do believe them on the surface. i have nothing to go by except for what you tell me, so in this sense yes i am ignorant of everything you havent enumerated. and i dont take you as a fool hutch, you have some good shit to say from time to time like everyone else here. but as it turns out, i was absolutely right in saying you havent thought of all the implications of your words as evidenced by you rephrasing what you say yet again.
