your only argument that the attack on iraq was not justifiable is because it was for purely selfish reasons. so if something is purely for a selfish reason then it is not justifiable? can you explain waht you mean exactly?
i have a feeling you say things that appear heartfelt or noble or what your parents told you an honorable man should say. but i also suspect you dont follow some of your own ideas to see the implications of them, and you probably dont live by them.
Doing something for purely selfish reasons isn't necessarily bad in itself. If you do something selfish which is unecessary and results in others getting hurt, then it is not justifiable. George Bush didn't need to attack Iraq - picture if he invested the $400 billion into renewable energy? We wouldn't need oil at all anymore! Instead, he decides that it is imperative that the U.S. control Iraq's oil (or the puppet government which 'controls' it), sending in thousands of troops and resulting in the deaths of ~600,000 Iraqis, all because he was selfish (he couldn't let Saddam sell the oil to someone who provided a better offer, such as China).
If I was hungry and decided to eat two of the three remaining cookies, even though I did nothing to deserve the extra cookie, leaving my brother with only one, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. If he asked for the cookie, and I smashed him over the head with a brick, stealing it and consuming it myself, then that's selfishness taken one step too far. George Bush assaulted Iraq with a metaphorical brick.
Regardless nhoj, why would I say things that are heartfelt and noble if I don't believe them - what, to convince those of you in GOM that I'm a good guy? I care little what you all think of me. I sometimes act selfishly, we all do - suggesting otherwise is greatly erronous. Show me one person on this board who claims to have never done anything selfish and I'll show you a liar. That doesn't mean I will do whatever it takes to get what I want. And please don't suggest that I don't see the implications in this argument, I'd prefer if you didn't take me as a fool. After all, it sounds as though you're the one with the ignorance issue here - very few people are either universally selfish or unselfish, there's a shade called 'grey' which exists between your black and white nhojsmith.
