Yup, you are exactly right. Back then the leaders, rulers, but mostly KINGS, were righteous individuals who actually DID have their citizens' best interests at heart. If those leaders did not find the cause sufficient enough that they themSELVES would hit the battlefield, then they would not send their armies to go to war. Any leader who would send his troops out while he sat at home watchin the shit on tv would be considered useless and overthrown.
