Whale Wars is a one-hour weekly American documentary-style reality television series that premiered on November 7, 2008 on the Animal Planet cable channel. The program follows Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, as he and his crew aboard the MV Steve Irwin attempt to deter Japanese ships that hunt minke and fin whales off the coast of Antarctica.[1]

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society disputes the Japanese claim that the whaling done in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is legally accepted research and is instead banned commercially based whaling.[2] Sea Shepherd has been both criticized and praised for tactics which include throwing stink bombs at, boarding, and attempting to disable the Japanese vessels. Due to the controversial nature of the show, Animal Planet displays the disclaimer:

"The following program contains commentary and opinions that do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Animal Planet."

The show pretty much pisses me off.

Now I'm not pro-whaling or anything, but these little white hippies with dreads really bother me. They do all kinds of illegal and dangerous shit and are like somali pirates without the AK's.

man this shits hella corny. Every episode it seems like they loose an engine, loose a boat, someone falls overboard, drive into a hurricane, some guys head almost explodes from the L-RAD, blah blah, and then suddenly EVERYTHINGS FINE. overdramatized bullshit if you ask me. I can seriously see the camera guy turning off the camera and saying "dudes, you guys need to step up the drama cause this driving a boat around and throwing water balloons at japs is actually VERY BORING."

exactly we all know the story and if we dont we dont need to watch an hour a week episode about them being complete and total idiots who feel they will save the world by saving one whale come on im sure whales are being killed in other parts of the world there is nothing special about their part and the captain just seems like a moron to me and doesnt even seem like he wants to be there half the time

sometimes i dont know what to think of this show, its like whats the point? one day one of them ships are gonna gun them down with uzi's, but we'll never see that. I mean every show is about throwing ropes in their propellers.
