WEST LINN, Ore. – West Linn High School is getting a new teacher this school year, and some people in the community are disturbed.
Mr. Kintz has been teaching math at West Linn for 20 years. Now the students will have Ms. Kintz as their math teacher.
Nick Kintz has been living as Nicole Kintz for three years outside of work, and now plans on living as a woman full-time.
Roger Woehl, the West Linn-Wilsonville School District superintendent has informed students, staff and parents of the change.
“We’ve made it a point to remind everybody, not just the individual involved, but all of us, that it is not appropriate to talk about sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political beliefs in the classroom,” Woehl said.
The situation has been a hot topic of discussion on some radio talk shows and Internet sites. Some of the response has been nonchalant or supportive of Kintz, but others argue the teacher is now a distraction in the classroom.
