NATIONAL CITY, Calif. -- A local middle school teacher faces 32 criminal charges for his alleged sexual relationship with a former 15 year-old student.

Teacher Arrested For Alleged Sex Crimes
South Bay High School Locked Down The National City Police Department arrested Craig Edward Kelso, 38, Tuesday in connection with the alleged sex crime. Kelso is a teacher at Granger Junior High School in National City. Police said he has been placed on administrative leave. The girl involved in the case was a former student at the school, police said. Kelso was arrested without incident just before 7 p.m. in the 3400 block of Second Avenue in the Hillcrest area. Police had the area under surveillance when they said he drove up in his Ford F-150 pickup. Police drew their weapons and arrested him without incident.Kelso was booked into San Diego County Jail. He is charged with 22 counts of child molestation, three counts of sodomy and seven counts of unlawful sex with a minor. His bail was set at $900,000. Police did not say how they found out about the alleged sexual relationship, but they began their investigation last week.For a time on Tuesday, Kelso's whereabouts were unknown. According to the National City Police Department, there were reports that Kelso may have been in the area of Otay Ranch High School. That led to a lockdown of the campus in the 1250 block of Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista for one hour. Lillian Leopold of the Sweetwater Union High School District told NBC 7/39 officials received a call from police around 2:30 p.m. that there was a dangerous suspect in the area. At that point, all 2,400 students and staff members were ordered into buildings and doors were locked.The reports of Kelso being in the area were unfounded, police told NBC 7/39.Anyone with information on Kelso's case is asked to call the National City Police Department at 619-336-4411 or Crime Stoppers at 619-888 580-8477.
