Ok, today on my job, I walked off and quit. This is what happened. I work at a detail shop, I was a detailer and a carwasher for my first 2 months. I wasnt bringin home nothin but like $250 a week. But then I moved up to being a buffer, been doing that for the last 6 months, bringing home $700 a week. This is a production job by the way, u get paid for how much work you do, not by the hour. I also work between 50-55 hours a week from 7 a.m til 6 p.m. So today, the manager wanted to move me back into carwash permanently, then I thought about that small ass money I made before. Not to mention that they have a lot of foreigners (that dont speak english) who just started and they dont really produce that many cars, so I'll be even worse off than I was before. So I walked out. The manager seemed hurt when I was leaving, almost had tears in her eyes. But at the same time, me going back to making that small ass money was going to be a permanent move. I feel bad that she was hurt by it, but at the same time...I couldnt go back to makin that little ass money. So, was I wrong?

I used to work at a car wash and know what you mean. You need to get into the vaccume department. Me and my homies used to vaccume up change and at the end of the day we would empty the bins full of dirt and hose down the change and take it to the coinstar machine. Used to get 50- to 80 bucks a day. Buffin will make more than a dryer though. One time this bitch brought in a vett to be detailed and she left with her husband in another vehicle. We took the vett on a few deals and turned a few tight ones behind the shop. hahahahahahaha

no you were right not to take the demotion

although you could have handled it better then just walking off saying fuck it. You could have tried to negoiate into staying at your current position but if there were no choices, i think you made the right one.

i would have done the same shit....she's tryin to fuck with your income which pretty much keeps you alive. there's a HUGE difference between $250 and $700.

like ac said, you could have tried talking to her abotu it, but if that wasn't an option, then walking out is a good choice. it's not like there's not other places just like that either, hit up another place that does the same thing around your area.

tell her you're sorry for the way u left things, but if they're gonna underpay you, you're gonna go where you're paid what you're worth. tell her if she wanna financially compensate for the burden and insult that she has caused for you, you'd consider coming back...then quit again.

Don't trust management, and if you're a manager don't eve trust yourself because they will say and do anything to keep there income steadily rolling in. I think you did the right thing, you can make more working at a damn grocery store.

Did it cross your mind to ask WHY she was moving you off buffing? Maybe explaining to her WHY you were not willing to take such a cut in pay would have been the mature thing to do...

Don't burn bridges, pal.
