The show, which debuted in the US in 1984, was a re-dubbed and re-edited version of the first season of Japanese anime, Beast King GoLion. Drastically altered and released in the States as Voltron: Defender of the Universe, it was the first bit of Japanese pop-culture (since, perhaps, Godzilla and Speed Racer) to make an impact in America with not only the animated show (which was more advanced than any US animation, while already three-years-old at the time), but the iconic, gigantic Voltron robot set. Made of durable die-cast metal, it allowed kids to assemble the lion robots into the spectacular, sword-wielding, Voltron.
LMAO @ Beast King GoLion.... JPS (Japanese People Shit)

Voltron was cool... but the cartoon sucked... kinda slow and boring...

Transformers was better than Voltron in 84.
(Note for 90's Babies:Transformers first aired in the United States in September 1984)

anyways here is the Japanese version....

and the American version...
