Gamecaster Field of Play
We unveil the gaming stadium of the future...and the revolution will be televised.
October 03, 2003 - While stadium gaming competitions have been extremely popular in Korea since the late 1990s, especially tournaments for the crowd-pleasing StarCraft, the revolution hasn't really hit the States. San Diego, California based Gamecaster is about to change all of that very soon.
If Gamecaster has its way, videogame competitions will become just as much a part of American television viewing as the SuperBowl or the World Series. The Gamecaster Field of Play arena is a circular platform with several networked gaming stations where hardcore gamers will battle it out to determine who's the best of the best. Not only will the arena seat thousands of live spectators watching the competition on gigantic Jumbotron monitors, but the platform will rotate as well, giving the audience a 360 degree view of the action as it unfolds. The Gamecaster Field of Play arena is also completely mobile, and they plan to take this puppy on the road, bringing PC and console competitions to all parts of the United States. As we mentioned before, these competitions will be televised as well, giving the folks at home a chance to see the top gamers go at it in head-to-head competitions.
While you might not have heard of them, Gamecaster is comprised of the people behind the exciting BattleBots TV series, and Gamecaster's executive producer, Rick Gentile, has produced popular sports events such as the Olympics, the World Series, and the U.S. Open for television, so they know what they're doing when it comes to producing and broadcasting high-profile sporting tournaments.
While it's still a ways away, we're bringing you the first look at the pre-visualization of the Gamecaster Field of Play arena. This pre-vis gives you a glimpse of what you can expect from the first mobile gaming arena in the world.
We also have a few movies on the media page where you can see the concept behind the Gamecaster Field of Play in action, so be sure to click on the link below.
Enjoy, and definitely expect to hear more about the Gamecaster Field of Play in the future.
