Bascially.......

I got a 42 inch 1080p Plasma

My dvd player DOES NOT have HDMI hook up, so i'm looking into buying component cables (u know, green, blue, red) to help my movies look better...

there's hella specifications w/ within the kinds of cables, so how should i decide for which one to get?

thanks, yall.

just go with the stock cables that came with your dvd player.......should be good enough. If your paranoid and have money to spend get a nice set of monster cables. I wouldn't spend alot on component cables considering just about everything is going to HDMI. If you wanna go with a nice set of cables and don't wanna fork over $50-$100 payin MSRP for monsters look on eBay...

another thing you might consider.....is the DVD player you have now an upconverting player. Does it upconvert to 1080i or 1080p? Since you have a 1080p TV I would want to take full advantage of it's capabilities and just upgrade my player rather then worry about exspensive cables for right now...

well you wouldnt notice 1080p/i really unless you have bluray/hd dvd.

cables arent even expensive.. monoprice.com

dont buy monster/belden or any of those fucking cables, youre basically paying for candle stick aka monster park aka bill walsh field and advertising/fancy package you get with the cable.

with this in mind pretty much no brand of component cable will look or out perform better than the other. If you want your movies to look better upgrade to an upconverting DVD player (waste of money) or buy a Blu Ray/HD DVD player which will allow you to play the new movie formats as well as upconvert your standard dvd's to "near" HD quality...

not really, its analog so its just like having RCA's, Yellow, Red, White.

Make sure your tv supports 1080p thru RGB tho.

Id recommend getting a DVI/HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable if you have a DVI port because HDMI is becoming the standard and when you upgrade later up the road youll have the option of taking off the dvi adapter and BAM, you got a HDMI cable.

video quality wise.......component is just the same as HDMI. the only difference is HDMI carries your audio too. I would deff run component if I was not considering HDMI. Not sure if you are running surround sound or not but you will want the best possible hook up for that too to take full advantage of your movies...

you fell off serious bread for that TV give it the respect it deserves the only way to get true 1080p is thru the use of HDMI (dont believe me read up on it) and for sound make sure you use an optical cable for the best audio quality whatever way you choose to go (HDVD or Blu-RAY) will have this connection also

exactly. You dropped some decent money on that tv, yet youre considering buying some cables instead of a new DVD player.

Doesn't make much sense. You know the saying: don't cheat yourself...
