I’m trying to send a video to someone to watch on their windows media player.

When they open it up, they can hear the video, but can’t see it.

How can I figure out what codec/s they need to view this?

I know how to do this on my own computer if I have a similar problem, but I don’t know how to figure it out for someone else who’s not all that computer literate.

I’d like to just be able to send them the codec to DL along with the video.

Any help?

Try sending them this: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/k-lite_codec_pack_full.cfm

That should solve the problem..

There is a free application called "Gspot" availible online. Have them open the file with g-spot and it well tell them exactly what codec they need.

"GSpot is a video codec identification utility - identifies which video codec and audio compression method is used on .avi files, whether the matching codec is installed, and more."
