The first recorded instance of the United States enacting a ban on the distribution of medicinal substances to its own people is the Harrison Narcotic Act in 1914.

The original US Constitution demanded that each citizen owns his/her blood stream; each citizen had the God given right to use whatever medicine given to us by the creator. The original US Constitution demanded that each citizen keep firearms to prevent the federal government from overstepping its authority. For the non thinkers out there, the FDA ( Food and Drug Administration) wants to have control over vitamins; hence, how would you like your taxes to go up to get a glass of orange juice. How do you feel about the doctors who can't advocate their patients what natural and legal over the counter products to use to cure sickness because when a claim is made that a product cures something, the FDA has automatic control over the product. A doctor was selling calcium tablets in his DOCTORS OFFICE!!!!!
You can buy calcium tablets anywhere; you can buy milk for chritsts sake.
But the FDA had agents with guns drawn collecting all of this doctors calcium tablets; what that boils down to is you the citizen, you are a dreaming naive person if you believe you are a free citizen, must fork over a lot of money to something full of chemicals that a drug manufacturer makes. By the way, there are A LOT of natural herbs that could be used over chemicals, but the drug companies can't monopolize something you can grow.

The first recorded instance of the United States enacting a ban on the distribution of medicinal substances to its own people is the Harrison Narcotic Act in 1914.
You better look up history and read up on taxation without representation.
Or just bend over and be a BITCH!

Legalize Hemp/Pot/Bud first,

@ Freedom Lost, are you a Libertarian? I don't think we have too many of those around these parts... Also, is your beef with teh Harrison Narcotica Act that opium and/or cocaine is taxed or illegal, should be legal to grow, sell, ect. without any type of Tax?

But yes, there are some effective Homeopathic remedies. Also, some medical practices from the Far-East are often more open to exploring more 'natural' herbal type remedies...

The benefit of having these chemical substances regulated theoretically is that there is some sort of accountability (although this can be debunked if one compares the number of deaths per year from prescription pills vs. 'illicit drugs')

The theory behind the purpose of of the FDA is actually very practical, however, in practicum everything gets all screwy b/c of corrupt capitalist politics (i.e. lobbyists for the large corporate drug companies and food producers/manufactures)

Yes I am a Libertarian based on this definition "someone who believes the doctrine of free will"

I am supportive of having an FDA, but one without any type of authority. If I had a choice in the matter, the agency would give its stamp of approval or disapproval; however, the individual could then decide what to do. I am utterly and completely disgusted with a system that enacts a position of "Big Brother knows what is best for you" When I was in college, most every professor I spoke with did not even know that the original constitution gave citizens the right to use any drug; granted they were not political science or History professors, but the average citizen is a not a college professor. That information has been buried; heck, I challenge someone to use Google and find some information on the matter.

Our beloved constitution that we have through the blood of our ancestors is being pissed on. The rights to bare arms and to own your blood stream have been taken away! What is a felony? A murder conviction or having a drug on you! That's insulting to my intelligence. Whats more, that's terroism. That is a terroist act by the government. The illigalization of drugs was a backdoor way to limit citizens rights to keep weapons. Most people think that the constitutions right to have a gun is for hunting. The true reason was for citizens to be armed in case the Federal Government corrupts. Don't take my word for it, look it up!

the drug approval process is purely political and also about money. these fuckers at fda wont let us reimport drugs from other countries. i think some dickhead politician said something regardin drug prices a while back. he claimed the reason for the high prices is because the american taxpayer subsides the cheap drugs for other countries. thers is no reason why a medication should cost $1000 a month or more. if none of this political bullshit existed within fda prescription drug prices would be 15% of what they are now
