i got this idea from another site...but here's my twist
1. Don't pay for features if you can't pay for decent beats!!!
2. If you're gonna do gangsta rap, make it entertaining, Ice Cube Ice T and NWA made story raps all the time, and made the non-story rap ones funny...
3. Don't bite someones cover
4. Try to make a whole song without explicit lyrics!!!
5. Don't tell people it's the best album or going to change the game, or even say that it's better then anyone else's album
6. Before you decide to make an album, GO OUT OF TOWN, to where nobody knows you, and start flowin to people, this will get you honest feedback...
7. Don't get mad at constructive criticism, instead embrace it and learn from it...it can only make you better
8. Don't be afraid to do something different(not for the sake of being different tho', cus that don't work) if you feel like doin it...new shit will always be slept on for a minute, but if it's truly some good work, it'll catch on
9. Don't release an album untill you feel it is up to par with your favorite rappers albums
10.Get producers from outside your area, and watch what it does...
and let me add one more
how many times have you hit your local college to promote in the last year?
if it's a low number, tighten that game and go hit some damn colleges...man DOGDAY used to put fools out in front of high schools seelin their Cd's for half what the store had em for and gettin cats LINED UP...so, shit, every city has one, go hit it up and do ya thangamajang
