California Highway Patrol says an unlicensed driver struck a CHP motorcycle officer just moments after being involved in another collision Tuesday morning.
Authorities say CHP officers responded to reports of a collision between a Dodge Ram truck and a VW Jetta on northbound 101 near Wilfred Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. Investigators say the driver of the VW, identified as 23-year-old Juan Carlos Avendan Ortiz, struck an officer after making an abrupt right turn as he attempted to exit the freeway following the earlier collision. CHP says the officer was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained minor injuries.
According to CHP, Ortiz was found to be unlicensed and has two prior convictions for driving without a license. He is currently on court probation
