Pimp-C, one half of the Texas rap group UGK (Underground Kingz), is set to release his first solo project, The Sweet James Jones Stories, due out early 2005 on Rap-A-Lot Records.

Pimp-C will be one of the first artists to release an album under Rap-A-Lot’s new distribution deal with Asylum/WMG/Warner Music Group.

The Port Arthur, Texas bred rapper is currently incarcerated, serving an 8-year sentence for aggravated assaulted with a deadly weapon.

“On this album Pimp-C shows how versatile he actually is. He is singing his own hooks…which is what UGK fans haven’t seen him do before,” said Rap-A-Lot CEO James Prince. “We were working on this album before he was incarcerated. In his rhymes, he gives those true UGK fans what they would be expecting to hear.”

Some may remember Pimp-C featured on “Pocket Full of Stones” from “Menace to Society” or his guest appearances on Jay-Z’s hit “Big Pimpin” and 3-6 Mafia’s “Sippin on Some Sizzurp.”

Pimp-C and Bun B formed UGK in the late 80s, releasing several major label albums with Jive, including Too Hard to Swallow, Ridin' Dirty, and Dirty Money.

The rapper has also produced records for Master P, C-Murder, 3-6 Mafia, David Banner’s group Crooked Letters and others.

The album hits stores March 1 and the singles “Hogg in the Game” and “Is’a Playa” featuring Twista, Bun-B, & Z-RO are currently being serviced to radio. :siccness:

“Sweet James Jones Stories”

True Fans of hardcore reality rap know rapper/producer Pimp C’s voice like they know their own. As one half of the legendary duo UGK, Pimp C blazed the trail for popular Southern rap acts such The Young Bloodz, Field Mob, TI, Lil Flip and countless others to follow. As a producer the Port Author native has literally helped mold the sound of Southern rap music, by influencing many of today top producers such as David Banner and 3-6 Mafia, who list Pimp C as a major influence on his music.

Born Chad Butler twenty eight years ago in the small town of Port Author Texas and raised in the rough and tumble neighborhood of Buena Vista, where he experienced the various ups and down associated with being a young Black male growing up in the rural South. Like many rural areas in the 80s Port Author was hit with a crack epidemic that turned the once peaceful port town upside down. Drugs and violence became a common place and Pimp C struggled to avoid the traps that the system set up for him.

One of the things that helped him do this was music. An avid fan of hip hop Pimp C started his first rap group in the late 80s called Mission Impossible with his childhood friend Mitchell Queen. Later Jalon Jackson and Bernard Freeman (AKA Bun B) joined and the group changed their name to 4 Black Ministers. Like the Geto Boys who had members to leave before the group saw their first taste of success, Queen and Jackson left the group due to other personal commitments –they both played sports and had little time to devote to the group. With two members in the group it was time to change their name. The two settled on calling themselves Underground Kings and hit the ground running turning out an underground tape called The Southern Way that sold so well it landed UGK a five album deal with Jive Records.

In 1992, UGK dropped their national debut Too Hard to Swallow. The LP contained the hit single from the film “Menace to Society” called “Pocket Full of Stones,” a gritty tale of a young hustler bleeding the block. The record made Pimp C an instant star as fans gravitated to his tough in-your-face, I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude on the mic. With no video or radio support Too Hard to Swallow went gold and established UGK a fiercely loyal fan-base that borders on being a cult. As a result of their legions of fans UGK subsequent albums, Super Tight, Ridin’ Dirty and Dirty Money have reached gold status within a matter of months.

The success of UGK not only made Pimp C one of the most sought after producers/rappers in the game. In the past ten years he’s produced records for Master P, C-Murder, 3-6 Mafia, David Banner’s group Crooked Letters and countless others. He has guest appeared on several classic hit records including C-Murder’s “Akickdoe” 3-6 Mafia’s “Sippin’ on Some Sizzrup”and Jay-Z’s “Big Pimping”. These songs fueled the growing demand for Pimp C’s solo project Sweet James Jones Stories.

Sweet James Jones Stories, named after Pimp C’s alter ego, is the PA native long awaited solo album. Fueled by the sizzling lead single “Hogg in the Game” a banging track with a funky down home organ riff, a hypnotic beat and thunderous bass line, the single is a perfect way to announce Pimp’s triumphant return to the streets. Sweet James Jones Stories contains Pimp C’s signature production style which combines soulful live instrumentation with raunchy neck-breaking beats that fans of Pimp C have come to know and love.
