Injury forces Forrest Griffin out of UFC 155 bout with Phil Davis

A knee injury has forced former champion Forrest Griffin (19-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) out of this month's UFC 155 co-headliner with light-heavyweight contender Phil Davis (10-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC).

UFC President Dana White today announced the news. He made no mention of a possible replacement.

UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Griffin and Davis were part of the pay-per-view main card, which follows prelims on FX and Facebook.

"Forrest Has MCL tear and ACL strain," White tweeted. "20 cc's of blood removed from his knee and the saga continues at the UFC!!"

He gave no timetable for Girffin's return.

Griffin originally was scheduled to fight Chael Sonnen on the card. However, Sonnen ultimately was pulled from the fight so he could begin a coaching stint opposite Jon Jones on "The Ultimate Fighter 17." That opened the door for Davis.

Griffin beat Tito Ortiz by unanimous decision back in July at UFC 148. Prior to that, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua stopped him at UFC 134 in 2011. But the win over Ortiz gave him three wins in his past four fights.

Davis got back in the win column with a victory over Wagner Prado back in October at UFC 153. It was his first win since a March 2011 victory over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. In the main event of UFC on FOX 2, Davis dropped a unanimous decision to Rashad Evans. He followed that up in August against Prado at UFC on FOX 4, but an accidental eye poke left Prado unable to continue, and the bout was declared a no-contest.

Cody McKenzie out at UFC 155, promotion seeking new opponent for Leonard Garcia

Cody McKenzie's second attempt at a featherweight victory will have to wait a little bit longer.

MMAjunkie.com (MMAjunkie.com*•*UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps) today learned from sources close to the fighter that a training injury has forced McKenzie (13-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) to withdraw from a planned UFC 155 bout with Leonard Garcia.

UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main event is a heavyweight title fight rematch between champion Junior Dos Santos and ex-titleholder Cain Velasquez, which headlines the pay-per-view portion of the show.

UFC officials have yet to make a formal announcement regarding McKenzie's withdrawal, but sources close to the event indicated the promotion is hoping to secure a replacement opponent, despite the short notice.

Garcia is currently in dire need of a win after dropping three straight fights in the octagon. The Team Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter has competed under the Zuffa banner since 2007 and has a penchant for exciting (even if not exactly technical) brawls from start to finish. In fact, four of Garcia's past seven fights have earned him a "Fight of the Night" bonus, and his 2010 tussle with Chan Sung Jung in the now-shuttered WEC promotion is widely considered that year's best fight.

Still, Garcia has just one win in his past five fights and could use a victory to stay in his bosses' good graces.

Meanwhile, McKenzie had been looking to fight for a second time at 145 pounds after a three-fight UFC run at lightweight. His first trip to featherweight was not a success, as the submission ace suffered a knockout loss to Chad Mendes in just 31 seconds.

A timetable for McKenzie's return was not immediately known
