'UFC 143: St-Pierre vs. Diaz' slated for Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas

As expected the UFC's traditional Super Bowl weekend event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The Sin City venue plays host to UFC 143, which takes place Feb. 4 with a Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz welterweight title fight.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the likely venue earlier this month, and Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today confirmed it with us.

The event, which takes place on the eve of the NFL's Super Bowl, features a pay-per-view main card.

The UFC's Super Bowl weekend event typically is one of the year's biggest, and 2012 will be no different. Following a dominant win over B.J. Penn this past month at UFC 137, Diaz (26-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) leapfrogged Carlos Condit and now meets UFC welterweight champ St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) at the event. The fighters initially were expected to headline UFC 137, but Diaz was pulled from the title fight after no-showing a pair of pre-event press conferences.

The UFC has held a Super Bowl weekend event in Las Vegas every year since 2004. All but one have taken place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, a 12,000-seat venue on the Las Vegas Strip.

The latest UFC 143 card includes:

Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz (for welterweight title)
Carlos Condit vs. Josh Koscheck
Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier
Alex Caceres vs. Edwin Figueroa
Jorge Lopez vs. Amir Sadollah
Rafael Natal vs Michael Kuiper

Condit vs. Koscheck, Kuiper vs. Natal confirmed for UFC 143

A pair of bouts has been confirmed for the UFC's Super Bowl weekend event, UFC 143.

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported, a co-main event between Josh Koscheck (16-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) and Carlos Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is official, as is a middleweight bout between Michael Kuiper (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Rafael Natal (13-3-1 MMA, 1-1-1 UFC).

UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view while preliminary bouts are expected to air on FUEL TV.

Condit was expected to face Georges St-Pierre at UFC 143 before Nick Diaz called out the champ following his UFC 137 win over B.J. Penn. An angry St-Pierre accepted, which put Condit on the sideline.

However, UFC president Dana White later clarified that Condit is next line should he prove victorious in his next fight. The former WEC champ replaced Diaz to meet St-Pierre at UFC 137 before a knee injury forced the champ to withdraw.

Koscheck most recently fought at September's UFC 135 event, where he downed UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes via first-round knockout. The win was Koscheck's first fight since suffering a broken orbital bone in a UFC 124 loss to St-Pierre.

On UFC 143's preliminary card, Dutchman Kuiper makes his debut with an unblemished resume and three consecutive first-round wins by TKO or KO on the international circuit. However, a look at his resume shows that he has yet to meet an opponent with significant high-level experience.

Natal most recently outpointed "The Ultimate Fighter 7" castoff and recent UFC cut Paul Bradley at UFC 133, which reversed a disappointing draw to Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 124.

"Sapo" came out on the losing end in his octagon debut when Rich Attonito outpointed him at "UFC Fight Night 22: Marquardt vs. Palhares."

Jorge Lopez vs. Amir Sadollah added to UFC 143 in February

Wanderlei Silva protege Jorge Lopez (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) takes his second attempt at a UFC win when he meets Amir Sadollah (5-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at February's UFC 143 event.

UFC officials today announced the new welterweight booking.

UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view while preliminary bouts are expected to air on FUEL TV.

The positioning of the Lopez vs. Sadollah contest on the evening's card was not revealed.

Lopez debuted for the promotion at September's UFC Fight Night 25 event, where he dropped a unanimous-decision to Justin Edwards. The result snapped a 10-fight win streak for "Lil' Monster," whose two career losses have both come via decision.

Meanwhile, Sadollah, the tournament winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 7," looks to rebound from a disappointing decision loss to Dunae "Bang" Ludwig at this past August's UFC on Versus 5 event. Prior to the defeat, Sadollah had put together two impressive wins over DaMarques Johnson and Peter Sobotta.

With the addition to the card, UFC 143 now includes:

Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz (for welterweight title)
Carlos Condit vs. Josh Koscheck
Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier
Alex Caceres vs. Edwin Figueroa
Jorge Lopez vs. Amir Sadollah
Rafael Natal vs Michael Kuiper
