Carwin Pulls Out With Back Injury

I am going to pull out of the fight with Roy Nelson. As many of you know I have been having some back pain. I had an MRI yesterday and I have some damage that may really require surgery. If the doctors do not have to perform surgery then I will be out 8-12 weeks. If they do have to perform surgery I do not know how long I will be out of action.

I was really looking forward to fighting again and obviously this is a very disappointing turn of events. My manager said "You can't fight the best fighters in the world with just heart, it is time to stop limping to the top of the mountain and get healthy so you can climb it on your terms." I have been up all night thinking about this decision and what I may be missing by making it.

In the end my family and manager are right. I owe myself, I owe my fans the best show I can give them. I need to get healthy. I am going to be speaking with the surgeon this week about the surgery. My thoughts are if the surgery fixes it why add 8-12 weeks of physical therapy, epidurals and traction if surgery may still be needed.

The good news is the doctors said I can work on my cardio (they must have seen my last fight lol) with this injury.

This is a hard decision but the right one and I home #TeamCarwin can stand by me through this period of my career. No one wants to get me back to winning more than me. I just need to be healthy to do it.

This type of thing is MMA. I know I am saying that a lot but it is the truth. We sacrifice our minds and bodies on our own time and our own dimes to prepare for battle. in hopes that we get the call for battle. In that process things can go wrong and if we don't compete we don't get paid. The time, money and sacrifices are lost and your opportunity might pass you by. Some fighters choose to fight injured as the risk is worth any part of the reward they may receive.

This is why sponsors who support fighters outside of when they fight are critical to this sports success. This is why I am always thanking my sponsors.

If it wasn't for my sponsors I would not be where I am and I surely would not able to make this very difficult decision right now. Thank you Dethrone, Budlight, Good4UDrinks, and performancemma.com for your continued support. Thank you to my other sponsors and to all of those helping us fighters chase this dream of being a Champion.

Thank you to Jason Genet for being able to make sure that all of my efforts in and out of the ring have value. You and your team have done so much for me and my family words cannot describe how grateful we are.

To my fan's, we will get there and in the end this is all for you. I hope to continue to entertain you and interact with you as much as possible.

PS- If you are going to use this story please at least source where you got the content. Yes you BE!

Well that sucks. I thought they needed to have a stronger co-main since the main event is kind of lackluster, on paper at least. They need to put another big fight on there...I know its New Year's and all, but IMO, that would've been a reason to stack the card even more.

I see Frank Mir or Big Nog stepping in for Carwin...

Its not skipable but it should be free on spike in my eyes, they are all big fights tho and it is a stacced card just not that excited about the main event as I should be

The only fight I even care about on this card, now that Carwin is out, is Silva vs Vera...and it's not even on the main card lol. Hope they replace Carwin with Mir, been wanting to see Mir vs Nelson.

Gomi-Guida and Nate-Stun Gun might still be enough for me to buy it. Would be nice if they got Nog or Brock to replace Carwin. Or somehow get Cain to fight JDS and scrap Nelson

Featherweight champ Jose Aldo vs. Josh Grispi in the works for UFC 125

With the WEC featherweight title retired in Thursday's UFC-WEC merger, the UFC's first-ever featherweight championship fight will take place at UFC 125.

Featherweight contender Josh Grispi (14-1 MMA, 4-0 WEC) has been pulled from a planned WEC 52 bout with Erik Koch in favor of a UFC 125 shot at 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with sources close to the event that verbal agreements are in place for the contest, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

The change in plans was first reported by Heavy.com.

Featuring a lightweight title fight between current champ Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard, UFC 125 takes place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay-per-view.

The 22-year-old Grispi established himself as a top contender with four consecutive wins to open his WEC career – a run that includes a February 2008 win over fellow current contender Mark Hominick.

The Massachusetts resident has since earned victories over Jens Pulver and Micah Miller in a combined 83 seconds and choked L.C. Davis unconscious in June.

Meanwhile, Aldo (18-1 MMA, 8-0 WEC) looks to defend his newly-issued UFC title for the first time after closing out his WEC run with two successful defenses of the belt.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is currently on an 11-fight run and is widely considered among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

It's currently unknown if Koch will still compete at WEC 52, which takes place on Nov. 11 in Las Vegas.

Best fight that could be made at 145, my only question is: If Aldo beats the shit out of The Fluke, who's left at 145 that would even stand a chance?

Now that they're going into the UFC I think they'll actively pursue fighters from other organization because the pay would be there plus any LW fighters that wanted to cut before but didn't because there'd be nowhere for them to go because of pay could go down.

Shit.. if Edgar loses to Maynard he could easily drop down to 145. There's some interesting fights out there.

Hominick was supposed to get the fight but his hand's still in a cast. So there's still him and Edgar I guess. If Aldo eventually moves up Sandro will probably come in and take the title anyways lol
