the siccness is dead as hell lately to me,especially this forum (which is nothing new) so figured i would bring up something me and my boy were talking about...the discussion started with this statement from me which i honestly mean: "eminem is the most overrated rapper of all time"

in my opinion,he makes horrible albums using stupid voices and the celebrity of others to boost his own career...i think ppl get funny and talented mixed up when it comes to em.just cause he makes you laugh by rhyming words like wiener and poo poo,its doesnt actually make him a good rapper....discuss...dont argue...discuss (greg)

over time his albums have gotten worse but that is only because he is at a point in his career where he is able to take risks in songwritting. i dont think hes the most overrated rapper....more like the most overhyped.

yep, and hes also at a point where he doesnt have to put as much into his writing.

I still listen to his old shit once in awhile (Slim Shady LP, various appearances & freestyles) but hes just played out now. He could make a song where he just burps and farts for 5 minutes and everyone would call him a creative genius. D-12 is wack (Proof is cool) and it seems like hes stopped trying after 8 Mile was a hit. And that new flow he uses (lean back remix) is the opitimy of wack

"And that new flow he uses (lean back remix) is the opitimy of wack"
the flow wasnt bad it was just the phony southern accent he put on it.

D-12 isnt that bad in my opinion...they just cannot escape shady's shadow...Proof is dope especially on the freestyle tip (an mc who actually goes off the top of his head when feestlying...unlike his caucasion counterpart).

Proof and Kon Artist (i think thats his name ..) are the only ones i like from D-12.

Its funny how a couple of years ago when I said he was overated, people called me a hater, said I dont know rap, called me ignorant, etc. But now, the things I was saying then are finally starting to come out and people are seeing my point.

Technically he was and probably still is a tight rapper, his word play is excellent, his flows are sharp, his subject matter was something different

Now though, he repeats a lot, his subject matters are stale and the types of throw away silly songs he now makes suggests he is bored as fuck and should quit

Good topic, lets try and keep this hate free....

I think he is talented lyrically. He needs to find some subject matter though. If he actually said something positive and political in his raps, he has a huge following and could reach a lot of people. I guess he's rather complain about whatever teenie bopper singer is popular at the time, or talk about Hailey and Kim in every damn song. The main reason I dont like him though, is his voice, and that he is a modern day Vanilla Ice. His whole purpose is to appeal to suburban white kids...

obviously he aint doing it like he used to, what rapper is? the mans dropped 4 albums, all of which went multi-platinum, i would imagine is hard too keep dropping great material without making it watered down after a while. but what i look at, back when he first dropped the slim shady lp, and was still freestylin, i think it would be safe to say that not one rapper wanted to go heads up in a freestyle with him. his material was fresh, word play was crazy, and could clown on you harder than anyone. back in his prime, i believe he was one of the best rappers there were. now his shit is kinda crazy, some might even call it whack, and i probably wouldnt argue that. but geeze, i dont think anyone could deny ole boy brought it back in the day. his freestyles had everyone going crazy, or at least that was my perspective on it. his 1st and 2nd albums are undeniable classics. is he over-rated now, probably. was he over-rated back then, imo, not at all. he deserved all the hype. my pennies

I never bought any of his albums. I like listening to his freestyles, but from what I've heard from his albums I dont really feel the song concepts and subject matter, and I don't like his voice or the way he tries to sing in some of his hooks, I just can't imagine that shit bumpin out of my speakers.
He a good battle rapper though, I dont think he's overrated in that aspect. But as an overall artist I think he's very overrated.

Another thing to consider though is that he has had a huge impact on the rap industry. since he's a white dude he brought hip hop to a new level of popularity. Some people view this a good, since its making rap music more acceptable, and others view it as bad because you've got a bunch of rich white kids listening to rap cuz its trendy or something. I dont know how I feel about it..

yea Greg hit it on the head

He broke the mould, and back a few years ago nobody could fuck with him lyrically, he deserved his spot and he worked hard for it

he has lost his edge right now, genius has a shelf life, but he was burning bright for a hot minute

In my opinion I think he is still the best MC out right now. The shit he's best at doesnt sell. He has to adjust to the rap/hiphop game lyrically. Even though this last album wasnt so great its alot better than alot of that other shit thats out there. If havin tight lyrics was what u needed to have to sell records he definately be at top 3. I think that he would smash anybody up in the game if it was some written dissin shit. Face it! Nobody freestyle's anymore. Not shit that u really wanna hear. If any MC can take him out, it would be either Ras Kass or Kam and that's it. Anybody else would have to end their careers. Just listen to "nail in the coffin" & "the sauce".

i disagree with your comment about nobody freestyling anymore, there are plenty of ppl that still freestyle out there, just not ones in the limelight like Em,underground hip hop will always have freestyling...and with that,i think there are plenty of rappers out there that could hang with Em in the battle but they will never get the chance...i want to see somebody like eyedea battle Em,that shit would be sick, cause eyedea has ripped everybody that is anybody in the underground....i dont know if i could take both of their annoying voices at the same time though, haha

if that all you needed 95% of the albums that sell millions these days wouldnt see the light of day...and about 20 artists you have never heard of would be on a list over eminem.thats just the reality of it,as far as mainstream shit goes i would say that Em might be one of the better rappers out there, but as a bigger picture,he isnt doing anything special.he ruins his lyrics with HORRIBLE content and subject matter...so his lyrics mean absolutly nothing to me,cause i dont care about his family or who is on TRL this week...so the fact that he can rhyme something with hilary duff means nothing to me.even the songs i have liked from him he ruins with his obnoxious attempts at doing a chorus.he needs to stop trying to sing in that annoying voice and just having those corny as hooks all together.they have gradually got worse and worse and encore was just the pinnacle of them all....just horrible
