yeah I'm trying to put together a decent lab mostly for making beats right now since building a soundproof booth is expensive and takes up hella space.

I ran a search on the M-box cuz I went to a gear shop and they told me its the cheapest way to get pro tools but I heard people up here say it has latency problems and buzzing on the track. Does anyone have this equipment, if so speak on it cuz I'm thinking of getting it someday since other pro tools hardware cost like 1000 bucks or more! the dude who was trying to sell it to me said its also a studio quality soundcard as well.

At the moment I'm only running reason 2.5 with a midi keyboard.

I want to get

M-box
a 10 input mixer
a micro korg or a K station
and a nice module or 2

I figure with all that sound, my quality of my beats will be a whole lot better. reason is a real sweet program but I think its time to expand if I'm ever gonna get anyone to buy any of my shit. People find out you are running only reason or fruity and they automatically think you are a novice beat maker and don't want to fuck with you but i think i do real well with my experience level and the little gear i have though.

I might also want to get a new midi controller cuz the one I have doesn't have any knobs to control the filters in reason, will the knobs on the micro korg or K-station contol those filters if i used one of them as a midi controller?

you can get a digi 001 used for about the same price as the mbox if you search well enough i found one for $500 wit shipping included like 2 weeks ago....

and yes you can control some knobs wit the micro... reason is a pretty coo program.. it can get hella restrictive if you only use sounds from the factory sound bank.... but erry program out there is like that.. it sometimes just takes diggin into what you got...

The DUMMY at the store was just that. A DUMMY. Just like the dummy at guitar center swore up and down that FIREWIRE (1394) AND M-LAN WERE TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND WERE NOT COMPATIBLE.

1.THE CHEAPEST WAY TO GET PRO TOOLS IS TO SNATCH "PRO TOOLS FREE". YOU CAN GET THE 8 TRACK VERSION OR THE 32 TRACK CRACK. PRICE: FREE

2.THE NEXT CHEAPEST WAY TO GET PRO TOOLS IS WITH THE AUDIOMEDIA III SOUNDCARD AND PRO TOOLS 5.3.1 AND ABOVE (6 OR 6.1) SOFTWARE. PRICE: 125-200 DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU BUY THE CARD (MAKE SURE ITS REVISION QE) AND 50-75 FOR THE PRO TOOLS LE PROGRAM VIA DIGI DESIGN. THE CARD HAS 18 BIT CONVERTERS (ABOVE CD QUALITY) AND IS FIXED AT -10DB.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD RUN WITH A USED DIGI 001 (I'VE SEEN EM GO FOR 425 AND UP) AND VERSION 6.1 SOFTWARE. I WOULD BYPASS THE TEN INPUT MIXER. IN FACT YOU SHOULD BYPASS THE MBOX AND THE 10 INPUT MIXER. GET AN AUDIO INTERFACE THAT HAS 10 INPUTS. CONSIDER THE DELTA 1010 AND AN EXTERNAL PRE (FOR THE 48V SIGNAL)

DO A SEARCH ON WWW.GOOGLE.COM AND TYPE: DIGI DUC

THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT PRO TOOLS, MBOX, DIGI001 ETC ETC ETC

Aight guys I'm gonna ask a real dumb question, no need to tell me I'm a dumbshit.

Basically I've done vocal recording through mixers in the past....but I'm tryin to get better quality so I tried out this M-Audio duo thing.....when I plugged my mic in only 1 channel (the left side) would work. I was like WTF and talked to tech. support and they told me some shit but really didn't tell me how to make it work with both channels. I'm thinkin about buying the Digi 001 and wondering if the same thing is gonna happen, what it is, and how I can get it to record in both channels. Thanks

Just why would he want the Digi, AND another soundcard, AND another External Pre? The Digi001 has 2 pres and can act as a soundcard.

Am i missing something very obvious, because im gonna follow your advice and pick up the digi001...but im failing to see why one would need the additional soundcard/preamp

I'm sorry for the confusion. I'm suggesting that he run with a digi 001 and external pre OR run with the delta 1010 interface. He ***WONT*** be able to use both sound cards at the same time so he doesnt need two.
An external pre (when used with the motu or digi 001) is a matter of ***preference***. I know cats who are getting good results with the digi 001 pres. Its all a matter of preference and sound you're going for. If you wan't that "tube" sound the digi isn't going to sound like that. So what do you need? A tube pre or plug in. Good luck on that one.

YOU NEED AND EXTERNAL PRE, YOU NEED THIS, YOU NEED THAT...naw its all preference. Before they had trillion dollar pre's what were they using? What are the digi pre's being compared to? I'm not comparing them to the pre amps in a ssl 9000 because no comparison exists. You dont need your signal being routed through 6 or 7 boxes before it sounds GOOD...but...once again its all on the user (he or she may like running the signal through 8 boxes) and what sounds good to them.

BTW from my personal experiences its BETTER to track with an EXTERNAL compressor than to use the plug ins. I won't go to deep but it has something to do with overloading the A-D converters and all that good stuff.

DIGI 001 with 6.1 (or 6.0) doftware with *OPTIONAL* external pre

OR

DELTA 1010

OR

motu 828

If he goes with the delta 1010 he MUST have some type of pre amp or device that has phantom power. a mixer or external pre would suffice because the 1010 doesnt have 48v inputs. BTW the only reason I listed it was because he mentioned ten inputs.

@mayo I have no idea as to why your device has one working input. Maybe it isnt capable of using both 48v inputs at the same time? Maybe you have a blown input? If you have a phantom power switch make sure its on when recording condensers (you can leave it on for dynamic mics) but off when recording keyboards, samplers etc etc etc.
