Review:

One of the primary goals of BayUndaground.com is to distinguish valuable projects from the worthless ones, especially when it refers to the underground rap scene. That is why we try to review both priceless and lousy cds. One of so called slept on albums is a debut release from Porterville (559) rapper Travieso G. "Mind Of A Porosvillan" caught our attention with its amazingly great Latin gangsta rap material.

The name Travieso G might sounds new for most of you, yet he was already working with Doc 9 and a Norteno camp from Salt Lake City responsible for "Chubalation" compilations. Late 2009 is a final time for him to drop a solo endeavor. We receive 19 full length tracks with pretty large list of guest appearances. Nevertheless it is Travieso G who's the leading voice on this project and superbly handles the vocal part. Every time he's in the booth he rips the mic and delivers a great dose of emotions. His unique voice is a blend of aggression, hoarseness and passion. Most of his verses are kept in a mildly fast tempo, which fits the pace of the beat. You can expect to hear a decent set of rhymes and typical gangsta lyrics. Main themes are street stories like in "Troublez We Been Thru", "Body Bagz" or "If You Get Loked", but you'll also get a bit of laidback or party anthems like "Bounce 2 Dis" and "Jump In The Ride". Travieso G is also deeply connected with his turf, so that's why you'll also find tracks like "P.O.R.O.S." and "The Block". The only song which may not purely fit rapper's style is the one with N2Deep member. It is still a proper joint, yet it rather suits Jay Tee's pimpish flavor than Travieso's gangsta attitude. Overall, this project sounds like a solid savage Northern Cali Latin rap record. On the other hand it still has its melodious side, brought by tuneful production and RnB choruses served by female artists Mousie and Beka Loks. The majority of beats were delivered by Thugzy, who did a great job creating an unconventional and fresh sounds. He often used some catchy piano samples, which make the song distinct and expressive. It wasn't just the production which made the tracks distinctive, but also the choruses and guest appearances. Those of you who are not familiar with Travieso G's music will be pleased to hear verses from known figures like Lil Coner, Jay Tee and Mr. Kee, who was featured on the hook of "Boss", yet it is Doc 9 who can't be unnoticed. He was featured on 10 songs leaving behind a great set of verses. "Mind Of A Porosvillan" is an excellent example of a magnificent Latin release. The only thing which may disturb some listeners is not the greatest quality of mastering in a few tracks and a slim collection of solo songs. Apart from that this project offers great vocals, fresh production and decent lyrics. If you enjoy Norteno rap and you're looking for an outstanding project you haven't heard yet, you can get yourself a copy of Travieso G's "Mind Of A Porosvillan".

Thanks to Travieso G for sending us a cd for a review.
