A Tracy man remained hospitalized Sunday after he was stabbed three times in a fight Saturday morning that police describe as gang-related.
A 17-year-old male was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. His name was not released.
Victor Garcia, 20, was stabbed three times in his mid-torso a few feet from his house, on the 700 block of D Street, Tracy Police detective Dean Hicks said .
“One of his wounds punctured one of his kidneys,” he said.
Garcia was taken by ambulance to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital , where police said he was in stable condition Sunday afternoon.
Investigators surmise that the suspect and another teen, a 15-year-old male, made gang-related comments to Garcia, which led to the stabbing.
“The attack was unprovoked by the victim,” he said.
Hicks said the suspects wore red clothing, a color associated with the Norteños street gang.
Police responded to the incident at 11:14 a.m. Saturday. Tracy firefighters and paramedics also responded to the scene.
The teenagers ran south on D Street , and officers caught them on Second and C streets, near McDonald Park , Sgt. Dave Sasser said.
Garcia's family members and neighbors stood outside while emergency medical technicians worked on him. Blood marked the spot on the sidewalk where he fell.
Neighbor Jose Martinez, 31, said he was working on his vehicle outside but didn't see the stabbing.
“I heard an alarm chirp,” he said. “But I didn't hear anyone scream.”
He said the stabbing bothers him, because he worries about the safety of his children.
Police arrested the 17- and 15-year-olds on suspicion of felony gang participation charges. Charges against the 15-year-old also included misdemeanor assault.
The teens were booked into Peterson Juvenile Hall in French Camp
