What causes an ice cream headache?

Most people have experienced the dreaded ice cream headache at some point. You are minding your own business, eating something like an ice cream cone, a milk shake, a Slurpee, a snow cone... Then, suddenly you are hit with the most excruciating headache! Fortunately it only lasts about 30 seconds.
So where does this headache come from?

This article by Joseph Hulihan contains some great information. Here's a summary: When something cold touches the roof of your mouth on a hot day, it triggers a cold headache. The cause is a dilation of blood vessels in the head. The dilation may be caused by a nerve center located above the roof of your mouth -- when this nerve center gets cold, it seems to over-react and tries to heat your brain.

Therefore, the easy way to avoid "brain freeze" is to keep cold things away from the roof of your mouth!

yall need to watch your teeth. i had a cavity in my college days that i let continue to get worse and one day i woke up and the whole side of my face was swollen.

cavity's and teeth problems can go to your nerves, cause nerve damage, and even reach worse parts and threaten death.

so take care of that shit, your teeth play an important part in your health

im soundin like a dentist about now but its true

Damn that shit hurted so bad it made me insane the only thing that helped was that i hat to stick my head outside the window of the car with a open mouth to the way to the hospital... I almost wanted to kill the Dentist , too because she excedently stick this thing that look like that |______ in the nerve... Damn that shit felt like a Electric shock...
