I think this album gets a bad rap from real hip hop fans because of the 2 corny overplayed singles. I revisited this one the other day and the rest of the album is dope to me. The beats have an old school LA Gangsta feel and Tones lyrics are straight up gangsta. Not too many people were spitting like that back then. He had a song about smoking weed on there, when that was pretty much unheard of before Cypress came along. I think Tone Lōc was a victim of his record company trying to get another pop crossover single. I think if he was on an independent his career would have lasted longer and would have gone the same route as King Tee or Ice T imo...
