I was reading an issue of Vibe from a couple months ago, they had an article out about how African American actors arent representing their race the way they should. They were talkin about how they star in movies or TV shows in stereotypical roles or in movies that are just flat out embrrassing and made to entertain 3rd graders and shit like that.

Of course there are some great African American actors that star in blockbuster movies and take roles that arent stereotypical, like Halle Berry, Denzal Washington, Wesly Snipes, Morgan Freeman, etc...

But if I was an African American, and I was watching some of the shows on the WB or on UPN, or Cita's World, I would be fuckin embarressed. Some of these shows really stereotype African Americans as ignorent, loud, etc... Same thing with some of the movies that have came out recently (more specific Baby Boy, Bow Wow's movie, Juwanna Mann, etc...)How do you all feel about shows like these?

not to be "stereo typical" but from most of the black people i have encountered, they are load as well as ignorent.... i know not all blacks are tho!

there are many excellent roles for blacks in film...you just have to dig deeper than what is on mainstream media...i.e. independent films, foreign films etc.., and not the shit that is playing at your local cineplex 'cause high budget hollywood movies are more often than not geared towards entertainment rather than art

Naptown, I agree...thats what I mean...Im not saying that blacks arent good enough or dont care...some do and they do great jobs.
I mean, if you look at the work Denzel Washington has done, its everything from Civil War movies like Glory to Hurricane to Training Day...
But it seems like a lot of shows make blacks look bad, and I wouldnt have posted this if there werent black people that agreed (such as the writers from Vibe). I mean, think what white people in all white places (like Idaho or something) think of when they see Citas World or that one show on UPN the spinoff from Brandy with the fat girl. Its kinda stereotypical and it sucks that African Americans have to have this reputation but they do to some people.

And Young Lou, shut your bitch ass up. If you read the topic and knew how to have an intelligent conversation youd see that BLACK WRITERS FROM VIBE MAGAZINE brought the point up, so I guess they are racist too for wanting their race to succeed in wider roles and roles that dont stereotype blacks. fag.

Hell yeah waaaayy 2 many shows are allowed to be made that poke fun at black culture!!! But thats been the case from the begining of time in this country.. WE ARE EVERYONE'S ENTERTAINMENT

I see what some of you say and i agree that TV and MOVIES instruct us how to percieve each other. You can see it form how people dress according to their races latest look on a big time movie. You can see it in how people act.

The people who have no role models from a celebrity status are the "wierdos" who dont conform to the typical stereotypes.

I feel that muther fuckers stereotype asians, blacks, hispanics,etc.

For example: in the movies traffic, blow, and the mexican, the hispanics are portrayed as being poor, or being drug dealers.
In other movies hispanics are portrayed as gang members, etc..
