I started out dj'n for many moons, and after Big, Pac and L died, there seems to be NO CREATIVITY or ORIGINALITY...everyone just jumps from bandwagon to bandwagon spittin' the same tired materialistic crap. I quite honestly stopped listening to today's hip hop...went back to my crates and started bumping nothing but hip hop classics. that got me wanting to write songs and do production with that old school feel. I don't make money off of my hobby, but I do let my music circulate thru the hood

i luv to write homie...
its somethin that is in me..
to put my heart on a beat and make a song outta of it...is the creative part..
...
the more i get into this shit...the more respect i gain for the Legends...(i aint even gotta say names)....
....
so...would i still be doin this if it werent for money? Hell Yea!!...
...
i beleive when you do this shit for money....it fucks your music all up..
it controls how you make your music sound...cause...you gonna just go with production...or fetures....that are gonna help sell your records...
..
and that is what is fucking the industry up....

Im under no illusion that theres huge amounts of riches from rappin, some people get lucky and get into the fortunate position of being payed to express their art, and then some people abuse that position

I been rhymin for 16 years and all i have to show for it is a bunch of records and cds i have released, in some ways rap keeps me broke, all the time and money i invest with often little or no comeback

I would love to make at least a comfortable living out of it, but that isnt the defining motivating factor for doing it, its more a drive and need to express myself, the moment i stop feeling that urge i will quit doing it, paid or not

i think most people know that theres not THAT much money in being a rapper so they must really love what they do. even all the people you see on mtv/bet paid their dues.

people that rap just to get paid dont usually last long

AMEN, I feel the same way, 100%. I could be pretty well off without my music "hobby" expenses but the love of the art and being heard is all worth the sacrifice. If it was just about money then I would have given up a LONG time ago.
