Had lunch with Terrence Nelson Sunday after my panel was done we were talking about the good and bad from the New Mexico summit just wanted to share some of this to yall #1 never give or submit a demo written in a sharpie(I got a bag full of cds that will get thrown away cause it makes it look like the artist didn't put enough time in there music) #2 Register your singles with B.D.S.(cause if you say your hot in your area, that's the first thing we check is how much radio play you are getting)#3 follow up (just cause you got a card from me or any other A-n-R at a summit does not mean we will call you we 98% of the time will not,if you got the address or email send another package or email and say who you are like I'm the cat from the summit that gave you the cd with the girl with the big ass on it make me remember who you are)#4 demo(make sure your best songs are the first ones cause if the first song is weak 99% of the time rest of the demo won't even get a listen) #5 package(when you send in a package or hand one to me make sure you have a bio, photo, music, the best is a E.P.K. aka electronic press kit which can be emailed to me as well) he is a cool cat just wanted to share this with any artists out there coming from a a-n-r at at major label some of yall might already know this stuff some might not...

I'm gonna say this and this don't necessarily apply to the dude that you was talkin with Kontac.....but I don't think enough of the blame for the downfall of the industry (and specifically rap) is placed on some of these chicken shit, trend chasing a&r cats in the business.

I know a few cats that have gotten prominent a&r jobs who barely know the diff between and snare and a kick. Alot of these jobs are just handed out due to seniority and or the buddy system. They are all so scared to lose their job that they don't stand by their artists when times get tough and don't give a shit about artist developement at all. Then that leads to the ringtone based, quick fix radio garbage that comes out now.

This is why you consistently see the same a&r's and producers have hits, because they actually know what they are doing. But for every one of those hitmakers you have ALOT more herbs and squares runnin at these labels and personally I don't think that is factored in enough when people talk about the problem with the industry
