LOS ANGELES -- In a move that's sure to turn heads, the cover of the May 21 issue of Time Magazine shows a 3-year-old boy breastfeeding from his mother while standing on a chair.
The image accompanies a story on attachment parenting, a philosophy that encourages connection between parent and child through extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping and "baby wearing" (carrying the baby in a sling.)
The cover model, Jamie Lynne Grumet, 26, is an L.A. mom who subscribes to attachment parenting. Her son turns 4 years old next month.
Attachment parenting has been on the rise over the last 20 years following the publication of "The Baby Book" by Dr. Bill Sears and his wife, Martha.
"When you think of breast-feeding, you think of mothers holding their children, which was impossible with some of these older kids," Schoeller said in an interview on TIME.com.
"I liked the idea of having the kids standing up to underline the point that this was an uncommon situation."
The article also includes similar images of three other moms who practice attachment parenting.
